Senior Design Engineer

Full time, office based Norwich

At Aquaterra Energy we specialise in providing engineering solutions and equipment to the global offshore energy industry – helping clients drive efficient and sustainable offshore operations from drilling and field development, to decommissioning, carbon capture and storage, renewable, and hydrogen projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accomplished engineer to take ownership of technically challenging projects, lead design activities from concept through to delivery, and support the continued development of graduate and developing engineers. You will manage allocated design tasks against agreed project plans, milestones and deadlines while working closely with Project Engineers, Project Managers, clients and suppliers.

Key responsibilities

As Senior Design Engineer, you will:

  • Lead and manage design engineering activities from project initiation through to completion.
  • Develop a detailed understanding of project requirements, key milestones and delivery expectations.
  • Plan design work effectively and proactively identify any variations from the agreed project plan.
  • Develop conceptual designs and progress agreed concepts into detailed engineering solutions.
  • Undertake or lead mechanical and structural calculations, finite element analysis and technical drafting.
  • Prepare and review drawings, test procedures, inspection documentation and other technical deliverables.
  • Check and approve calculations, drawings, FEA and supporting documentation produced by colleagues.
  • Chair design reviews and clearly present technical solutions to project stakeholders.
  • Delegate work effectively to engineers assigned to your projects.
  • Engage with customers, clients and suppliers as required.
  • Train and mentor graduate and developing engineers.
  • Contribute to departmental improvement initiatives and the development of engineering best practice.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
