Reporting to the Director of Design & Standards, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Design Engineer to join our in-house Design Team.
In this role, you will lead the design and development of innovative engineering solutions across the marine, industrial, defence and automotive sectors, supporting the integration and installation of alternative power and fuel systems. You will take projects from initial concept through detailed design, manufacture, testing and deployment, working closely with internal teams, customers, suppliers, and certification bodies to deliver safe, practical, and high-quality solutions.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical design, excellent CAD skills (preferably CATIA V5/3DX), and the ability to provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers while driving continuous improvement within the design function.

Roles and Responsibilities
- Generate innovative designs using existing/proven technologies in conjunction with blue sky thinking
- Ensure DFA/DFM techniques are applied to all designs including early involvement with the procurement team
- Liaise with CAE analysts to achieve stress, modal and fluid flow objectives where required
- Generate design reports and provide presentations to senior management
- Support engineering team ensuring CAD designs are structured in accordance with BoM requirements
- Co-ordinate with Project Managers/Principal Engineers to achieve project timing with cost-effective/innovative design solutions
- Support on-going development of design and release processes and standards to improve quality, efficiency and value for money
- Provide support and mentorship to junior member(s) of the design team
Required Profile
- 10-15 years’ mechanical design experience, ideally within more than one industry sector (preferably automotive/marine)
- Understanding of electrical cable routing/management techniques
- CATIA V5/3DX experience preferable
- Ability to read P&ID drawings
- Proven basic knowledge of structural and vibration analysis and design techniques to resolve associated issues
- Minimum 2:1 degree in engineering-based subject
- Ability to work independently but equally within a small team
- Willing to take ownership of designs and ensure attention to detail is always applied
- Experience with working to international engineering/regulatory standards

Other Information
- Expected salary range between £55,000-65,000 per annum, negotiable depending on relevant experience and skillset.
- Place of work to be the company’s offices at Prospect House in Brentwood, Essex. Flexible working options are available.
