Senior Design Engineer
Aberdeen, UK
iO Associates are currently partnered with an innovative engineering company operating within the energy sector, supporting the design and manufacture of specialist downhole and completion equipment. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Senior Design Engineer to join their Aberdeen-based team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a highly skilled engineer to play a key role in product development, engineering governance and the design of complex mechanical equipment from concept through to qualification and manufacturing.
The Role
As Senior Design Engineer, you will be responsible for leading design activities, developing engineering standards and supporting the full product lifecycle. You will work closely with manufacturing, testing and leadership teams to ensure designs meet customer requirements, industry standards and operational expectations.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain engineering design standards, procedures and processes
- Produce and review detailed engineering drawings and technical documentation
- Create assembly, disassembly and maintenance procedures
- Generate engineering test plans, requests and technical reports
- Lead design reviews and approval activities
- Support new product development and equipment qualification programmes
- Oversee prototype manufacturing, assembly and testing activities
- Analyse customer specifications and technical requirements to ensure compliance
- Produce manufacturing drawings in line with applicable industry standards
- Maintain drawing control and document integrity within engineering systems
- Define design acceptance criteria based on product and customer requirements
- Liaise with management and cross-functional teams on design and development projects
- Verify design updates and drawing accuracy prior to manufacturing and testing

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering or a related discipline
- Minimum 10 years experience in a design engineering role within a relevant engineering or manufacturing environment
- Strong experience with CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks or similar platforms
- Understanding of engineering qualification and testing processes
- Knowledge of industry specifications and standards, including API standards and associated manufacturing requirements
- Experience producing engineering calculations and technical documentation
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work across multiple departments
- Fluent English, both written and spoken
