Walker & Sloan are working with an outstanding specialist contractor to recruit an experienced Senior Design Manager to join one of the UK's most exciting mission-critical construction projects.
Our client has built an exceptional reputation for delivering technically complex projects across the Data Centre, Defence and Energy sectors. With over 40 years of specialist expertise, they continue to deliver landmark developments where engineering excellence, innovation and collaboration are at the heart of every project.
This opportunity will see you joining a flagship hyperscale data centre development in Acton, where you'll provide strategic leadership across the design function, ensuring successful project delivery from pre-construction through to completion on one of London's most significant live construction schemes.
The Role
As Senior Design Manager, you'll lead the design management strategy across a major project, ensuring all design activities are coordinated, compliant, commercially robust and fully aligned with programme objectives.

- Work closely with clients, consultants, operational teams, and commercial colleagues
- Oversee multidisciplinary design teams
- Manage technical risk
- Drive value engineering initiatives
- Ensure the seamless integration of design into construction
You'll play a pivotal role in influencing project outcomes, supporting procurement and construction activities, while maintaining the highest standards of technical excellence, governance, and stakeholder engagement.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a senior design professional looking to work on one of the UK's most technically advanced construction projects.
About You
- Significant experience leading design delivery on large-scale construction projects within a main contractor environment
- Confidence in managing multidisciplinary consultant teams from bid stage through to project completion
- Strong understanding of design governance, technical compliance, contractual obligations, and programme management
- Leadership skills required to mentor teams, influence stakeholders, and deliver commercially successful project outcomes
- Passionate about driving buildability, innovation, and value engineering while maintaining a strong focus on quality, programme, and client satisfaction

Ideally, you'll be degree qualified within a relevant construction or engineering discipline and hold professional membership with RIBA, CIOB, ICE, or a similar institution. Chartered status would be advantageous.
