About the Senior Design Manager Opportunity
PSR Solutions are working closely with a leading Tier 1 Main Contractor, recruiting for an experienced Senior Design Manager. This is a flagship opportunity to take the Design lead on a £50m+ project in the West Midlands, playing a pivotal role throughout the Pre-Construction and Delivery phases.
As the Senior Design Manager, you will be the driving force behind all design coordination, leading multi-disciplinary design teams, managing consultant relationships, and ensuring innovative, compliant, and buildable design solutions are achieved from pre-construction through to delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the design process on a high-value (£50m+) project, acting as the primary interface between client, consultants, and project teams
- Provide leadership, guidance, and technical expertise to internal and external design teams
- Ensure design solutions are fully coordinated, compliant, and aligned with project programme and budget
- Manage and challenge consultants to deliver efficient and buildable solutions, driving value engineering where appropriate
- Oversee design risks and opportunities, reporting to senior stakeholders on progress and potential impacts
- Collaborate closely with commercial, planning, and operational teams to ensure design is delivered to the highest standard
- Lead design workshops and presentations with clients and stakeholders, fostering strong relationships
- Champion innovation, sustainability, and digital design practices within the project team

Skills and Experience
- Proven track record as a Design Manager or Senior Design Manager with a Tier 1 Main Contractor
- Experience leading the design process on large-scale projects (£30m+)
- Strong technical understanding across multiple disciplines
- Excellent leadership, communication, and client-facing skills
- Ability to manage consultants, stakeholders, and internal teams under pressure of deadlines
- Thorough knowledge of design management processes and best practices within construction
- Previous experience on major projects in sectors such as commercial, healthcare, education, or mixed-use developments highly desirable
