Fawkes & Reece are proud to be working with a leading main contractor delivering a strong pipeline of residential Design & Build projects across London.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Design Manager to join the business and take a lead role in the design delivery of low and medium-rise residential developments, with a particular focus on social and affordable housing.

The business has an established track record of delivering residential schemes across London, working with housing associations, local authorities and private-sector clients.

The Role

As Senior Design Manager, you will take overall responsibility for managing and coordinating the design process from pre-construction through to completion.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the design process across residential D&B projects
  • Managing design development from pre-construction through to construction
  • Coordinating architects, structural engineers, MEP consultants, and specialist subcontractors
  • Managing design programmes, deliverables, and approvals
  • Identifying and resolving technical and design issues
  • Leading design and buildability reviews
  • Supporting value engineering and cost-effective design solutions
  • Ensuring designs comply with planning, Building Regulations, and relevant technical standards
  • Working closely with Commercial and Construction teams to ensure design aligns with programme and budget
  • Managing design risk and maintaining effective design information control
  • Leading design meetings with clients, consultants, and project stakeholders
  • Providing technical leadership and mentoring within the design team

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven experience as a Senior Design Manager within the construction industry
  • Strong residential construction experience
  • A background delivering new-build residential developments
  • Strong knowledge of Design & Build procurement
  • Experience working on low and medium-rise residential schemes
  • Ideally, experience delivering social, affordable, or mixed-tenure housing
  • Strong technical design coordination skills
  • Experience managing consultants, subcontractors, and design teams
  • A thorough understanding of construction, buildability, and technical compliance
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
