Job Scope

The role of the Senior Manager within the design department is to support and manage all aspects of design delivery, working on one or more large projects to ensure key deliverables are set.

Needs to Have

  • 5+ years’ experience working in UK mobile telecom operators, SWCs or vendors, specialising in design production and delivery
  • Experience with designs from at least one of these companies in the UK: Vodafone, Ericsson, Nokia, BT/EE
  • Degree in relevant discipline and Project Management Accreditation desirable
  • Good Technical understanding of Telecommunications Industry essential
  • Understanding of the industry Health & Safety requirements essential
  • Excellent Commercial aptitude
  • Strong understanding of project methodology
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills
  • Strong organisational ability with experience in MS Project or similar project tools
  • Proven people skills in delivery of project KPI’s and experience in customer facing role.

Needs to Do

People Management

  • Responsible for Level 1 One-to-One Meetings within for Design Staff members monthly
  • The effective leadership and management of project team[s], including the development of team[s] and individuals, site based, or office based, in partnership with HR
  • Management of the relevant sub-contractors, monitor performance in terms of time, cost, quality and health & safety
  • Responsible for training and lessons learnt sessions.
  • Key point of contact for head of design as well as leave/sickness cover

Operational

  • Responsible for ensuring all handover documentation process is completed and submitted Right First Time
  • Lead a team of designers, CAD engineers to ensure the smooth delivery of designs.
  • Undertake all necessary actions and support to facilitate achievement of delivery team targets in terms of time [programme], cost, quality and Client SLA
  • Implementation of the performance management system
  • Set up and produce or guide staff on creating of Design templates.
  • Work with customers on design requirements
  • Be a point of escalation for major technical issues.
  • Implementation and maintenance of relevant approved processes, procedures, health and safety and technical standards and ensure their consistency with requirements of other Departments.
  • Responsible for defining and enhancing internal tools.
  • Part of the leadership team defining long and short-term strategies
  • Responsible for document control and maintaining thorough documentation of the design process.
  • Prepare monthly delivery and performance reports to Head of Design

  • Able to manage a large design team and provide feedback and guidance where required.
  • Able to manage time effectively and work to multiple deadlines with the ability to manage a range of project and design tasks simultaneously
  • Able to work well within a multi-disciplinary team and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Able to produce work of excellent quality and accuracy
