Senior Designer - Menswear, Casual Shirts

The location of the role is Paddington, London (hybrid working). The duration of the contract is 11 months. The pay rate on offer is £275 - £350 per day.

Role Summary

Design and develop commercially compelling menswear product, with a specialist focus on casual shirts. Lead and manage Junior Designers, Assistant Designers, and Graduates to deliver elevated product aligned with brand vision and customer expectations.

Key Accountabilities of the Role

  • Supporting the Design Lead to deliver global product direction for casual shirts through seasonal briefs and OTB opportunities.
  • Identify and respond to emerging trends, fabric innovations, and category opportunities.
  • Design and develop product with a consistently high standard of tech packs via PLM, ensuring accuracy and commercial viability.
  • Collaborate with Technical teams to deliver the agreed fabric and innovation strategy, maintaining product integrity and aesthetic.
  • Attend fit sessions, providing expert recommendations to uphold design standards in partnership with Technologists and Buyers.
  • Ensure timely delivery of range line sheets and tech packs within the critical path, integrating trend insights and commercial strategy.
  • Support the Head of Design and Design Lead in reviewing and implementing product strategy throughout the buying cycle.
  • Provide clear and focused design direction to Sourcing Offices (SO’s), leveraging regional manufacturing capabilities.
  • Conduct in-depth global retail and trade fair research, identifying actionable insights and opportunities.
  • Develop product in-region via SO’s and suppliers, ensuring alignment with customer needs and brand standards.
  • Collaborate with Designers across MW & Clothing & Home to build cohesive cross-business unit (XBU) looks and lifestyles.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing design team, fostering creativity and commercial awareness.
  • Coach and mentor JD/ADs/Graduates, identifying development needs and nurturing future talent.

Key Skills

  • Refined design handwriting and taste level aligned with company style vision and customer expectations.
  • Senior-level expertise in menswear design, with a deep understanding of casual shirts.
  • Strong knowledge of fabric, fit, and garment construction.
  • Advanced proficiency in creating tech packs and working across multiple sourcing models (Tech Pack/FSV).
  • Expert-level CAD skills: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign.
  • Experience using collaborative software; Miro and a key interest in DPC [Digital Product Creation].
  • Experience with PLM systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects to tight deadlines within the critical path.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills; able to deputise for the Design Lead when required.
