Senior Designer (Revit)
Location: Reading
Sector: Specialist Design & Build / Food Manufacturing
Salary: £60,000 - £80,000 + Package
The Opportunity
A growing specialist design and build contractor is looking to appoint a Senior Revit Designer to join its established design team in Reading. This is a genuinely senior, hands-on role working on technically complex projects across the UK, with a particular focus on food manufacturing, factory and production environments. The projects go well beyond standard architectural design, requiring close coordination across M&E, HVAC, interiors, specialist equipment and wider technical disciplines.
You'll be joining a six-person design department split across concept and technical design, with the technical side playing a central role in turning ambitious project concepts into fully coordinated, buildable solutions. The business is growing quickly, both in headcount and in the size of the projects it delivers. Current schemes are typically in the £1m-£5m range, with a clear ambition over the next three to five years to move towards projects of approximately £15m. For the right person, that creates a genuine opportunity to grow with the department and potentially move into a future team leadership position.
Role Overview
As Senior Revit Designer, you'll take a leading role in developing and coordinating technical design information across a range of specialist commercial and industrial projects. You'll be responsible for producing and developing detailed Revit models, ensuring that architectural, M&E, HVAC, interior and equipment-related information is properly coordinated and technically robust. You'll work closely with the wider design team, project managers, consultants and site teams to make sure design information is accurate, buildable and issued in line with programme requirements.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
You'll be involved from the early technical stages through to construction, resolving design issues, identifying clashes and coordinating interfaces between multiple disciplines. Because these are specialist environments, you'll need to understand how services, production equipment, circulation, hygiene, maintenance access and technical compliance all influence the final design. You'll also attend site when required, typically around once a week depending on project demands, helping ensure the design translates effectively into the finished build. This is not a role where you'll simply be producing drawings in isolation. You'll be expected to challenge solutions, contribute ideas and take real ownership of the technical design process.
About You
You are an experienced Revit professional with a strong technical design background and a proven understanding of complex construction environments. Revit experience is essential, but equally important is your background in factory, manufacturing or similarly technical facilities. You may have worked within food production, industrial facilities, commercial kitchens, pharmaceutical environments, cleanrooms, laboratories, offsite construction or another M&E-heavy sector where multidisciplinary coordination is critical.
You understand how mechanical, electrical and HVAC systems interact with architectural and interior design, and you're comfortable coordinating information across different disciplines. You are confident working independently, solving technical problems and managing your own workload, while still contributing effectively as part of a wider team.

Because this is a senior appointment, you'll also bring the maturity and communication skills to influence others and potentially develop into a future leadership role as the design department expands. Hands-on Revit capability remains fundamental, so we're looking for someone who still enjoys being close to the technical detail.
Company Profile
This growing family-run specialist contractor delivers design and build projects across the UK, with particular expertise in food manufacturing, factory and technically complex commercial environments.
The business has expanded significantly in recent years, growing from a relatively small team into a business of around 30 employees while maintaining the close-knit culture and agility of an SME. With an established design department, strong financial performance and ambitious plans to increase both project values and overall turnover, this is an excellent time to join. You'll have the opportunity to influence how the design function develops rather than simply becoming another member of a large corporate department.
What’s in it for you?
- £60,000 - £80,000 basic salary
- Profit-sharing scheme after six months
- Technically interesting UK-wide project portfolio
- Senior, hands-on Revit position
- Significant long-term progression potential
- Opportunity to develop towards future team leadership
