Role Description
This Senior Project/Design Engineer role at Titan supports automotive projects at the cutting edge of steering system development, helping dynamic vehicle manufacturers bring exciting vehicles to market with a particular focus on electric and autonomous vehicles. As Titan expands its engineering team in response to high demand, the successful candidate will help drive forward interesting and challenging projects, exceed customer expectations, anticipate and overcome difficulties, and deliver class-leading solutions on time and within budget.
The role covers projects from initial concept through to production, providing the opportunity to see vehicles on the road using systems the successful candidate has helped develop. It would suit an experienced project engineer or a design engineer ready to take on broader responsibilities and play a major role in the success of individual projects and the company as a whole. Combining hands-on design engineering with genuine responsibility and authority, this is a high-profile role where the impact made will be visible across the business.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and contributing to design engineering activities
- Determining the best approach to meet technical, cost, weight, and quality targets
- Leading DFMEA and Design for Manufacture activities
- Defining and managing design validation
- Using appropriate CAE tools within an analysis-led design approach
- Creating and developing 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings
- Reviewing work produced by other team members
- Liaising with Production, Quality, and Shipping to ensure technical and delivery requirements are fulfilled

The Senior Project/Design Engineer will take responsibility for project delivery, risk management, pre-emptive risk mitigation, and the rapid and effective resolution of issues. They will maintain visibility of key deliverables, ensure teams are working towards their achievement, provide technical liaison with suppliers in support of Purchasing, and manage relevant people and processes within the business. The role also requires clear, positive communication; a regular cadence of progress and issue reporting to customers; and strong engagement with internal stakeholders.
The successful candidate will support the effective running and development of Titan, ensure the health and safety of activities within their areas of responsibility, maintain compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and TS 16949 procedures, and provide positive support to other areas of the business when required.
About You
- A minimum of three years' experience in automotive design and development
- Previous experience working for an automotive supplier or OEM
- Strong engineering skills and knowledge in mechanical, electrical, or mechatronic design
- A degree in Engineering, or demonstrably equivalent engineering knowledge
- Dynamic, assertive, and highly capable, with a proactive can-do attitude and a determination to deliver excellence
- Excellent organisational skills, strong self-motivation and discipline, and close attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to build respect and loyalty within a team, with customers, and across the business
- A clear understanding of project processes, particularly risk management, change control, and real-world problem-solving
- Previous experience in a project engineer role would be advantageous
- Expert capability in 3D CAD; experience with Autodesk Inventor would be beneficial
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Project
- Experience with FEA tools such as NASTRAN or Ansys would be beneficial
- Experience with CFD software would be beneficial; Titan uses Simerics, although experience with other CFD packages is also relevant
- Experience working within an ISO 9001 / TS 16949 environment
- Knowledge of BS 8888 drawing standards
- Familiarity with UNECE Regulation 79 would be advantageous
