SENIOR DEVELOPER
Equipple | Belfast, Titanic Quarter — hybrid, minimum two days a week in the office
Permanent, full time | £55,000–£65,000 depending on experience
Closing date: Sunday 20 September 2026
Own the stack behind a growing EdTech platform — React, Node, Postgres and AWS — and build against a technical roadmap that's already mapped out.
ABOUT EQUIPPLE
Equipple is a Northern Ireland-based EdTech company. We build parent engagement and school communications software used by schools and multi-academy trusts across the UK and Ireland. We're a small, fast-moving team at an exciting stage of growth, with a growing customer base and investment behind us.
The technical direction is set. We know what we're building over the next two years and the roadmap exists on paper. What we need now is a senior developer to build the stack that delivers it.
THE ROLE
This isn't a role where you're handed a detailed ticket and told exactly what to build. We need someone who can understand the why behind a feature, work out the best approach, build it well, and make sure it works before it goes anywhere near production.
You'll work across the full stack — React 19 and React Router v7 in TypeScript on the front end, Node 22 in TypeScript on the back, Postgres underneath, all running on AWS. We work semi-asynchronously: roughly half the week together in the office, half heads-down. That means real autonomy over how you spend your time, and it means clear written communication matters as much as clean code.
- Front end — teacher and parent interfaces, responsive UI, reporting views
- Back end and integrations — Node services, RESTful APIs, MIS data sync, Postgres schema design
- Shipping and quality — scoping through to release, your own QA, code review, test coverage
- Platform health — bugs, performance, technical debt, architecture as the platform scales
Where your responsibility ends: our CTO owns the technical roadmap and sets architectural direction. You'll shape both and you'll own delivery, but you won't be carrying the strategy on your own. Worth knowing: there's no separate QA team to catch what ships.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Not deep expertise in every area — a capable all-rounder who can learn unfamiliar tools quickly and apply them confidently.
Essential — what you'll need from day one
- React 19 and React Router v7 in TypeScript. Hooks, state management and component architecture, with responsive UI in Tailwind CSS v4.
- Node.js 22 in TypeScript. RESTful API design and third-party integration.
- Postgres v16+. Clean SQL and type-safe queries, ideally through Drizzle ORM.
- AWS in practice. Managed databases, S3 storage, CloudWatch monitoring, and comfort with containerised deployment.
- Authentication and security. Sensible handling of auth, third-party APIs and sensitive data — we hold pupil data and take that seriously.
- Git, GitHub and a PR-based workflow, with automated testing in Vitest, Jest or similar.
- Five years or more of professional full-stack or front-end-heavy development, with a track record of shipping production code in a SaaS or product environment.
- Self-directed, with a strong eye for detail. Edge cases, error handling and the polish that makes software feel finished.
- Strong written and spoken communication skills. Able to explain technical decisions clearly to a non-technical co-founder, and to work asynchronously for half the week.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

HOW WE WORK
We take pride in the craft and don't cut corners on the things that matter. We say early when something is broken, late or stuck. We expect initiative rather than waiting to be asked, and we care about the people at the other end — schools, teachers and parents who deserve software that just works.
