Senior Developer – Business Systems
About the Role
As a Senior Developer at Commercial, you’ll play a pivotal role in supporting, maintaining, and evolving our core business systems and integrations. Within the Business Systems team, you’ll deliver reliable, scalable solutions that enhance day-to-day operations, improve user experience (UX), and drive business growth.
This is a hands-on, multi-disciplinary role blending development, database optimisation, and systems integration. You’ll collaborate closely with stakeholders across the business, contributing to both new initiatives and continuous system refinement.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:

App Development & Maintenance
- Develop, maintain, and enhance business applications, integrations, and internal systems, ensuring they are scalable, reliable, and user-friendly.
- Align solutions with business needs while maintaining high performance and stability.

Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work with stakeholders to gather requirements, provide technical guidance, and deliver pragmatic, scalable solutions.

Troubleshooting & System Improvement
- Investigate and resolve system and data issues across interconnected platforms.
- Optimise performance, usability, and stability of existing systems.

Integration & Data Solutions
- Design and execute system integrations (APIs, middleware, data exchange) with a focus on security, efficiency, and seamless data flow.
- Optimise database performance (schema design, query tuning, indexing, data integrity).

Data Management
- Manage data processes (imports, exports, transformations, reconciliation) across multiple systems.
- Ensure clean, accurate data workflows and maintain documented processes.

Full Stack Lifecycle Ownership
- Oversee projects from design to deployment, including testing, version control, and support.

Release & Deployment
- Support release management to ensure controlled, stable system updates.

- Work with external suppliers and internal teams to maintain effective system operations.

- Modernise legacy systems and adopt best-practice development approaches.
- Explore opportunities to apply AI and automation for efficiency gains, data insights, and process improvement.
Requirements
Technical Proficiency
- Core Microsoft Tech Stack: Strong experience with C#, .NET, and SQL Server.
- Database Expertise: Deep understanding of SQL Server, including performance tuning, query optimisation, and schema design.
- Integrations & APIs: Experience with middleware (e.g., Connex), data transformation (ETL/mapping), and API development.
- Diagnostics & Troubleshooting: Ability to resolve complex technical and data issues across multiple platforms.
Methodologies & Practices
- Proficiency in full development lifecycle (design, development, testing, deployment, support).
- Knowledge of source control, structured testing, and system documentation.
- Exposure to ERP/CRM systems, cloud platforms, or web technologies is advantageous.
Soft Skills
- Analytical & Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose, recommend, and implement practical solutions.
- Organisational & Prioritisation: Manage workloads in a fast-paced environment.
- Communication & Collaboration: Work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Growth Mindset: Awareness or interest in AI, automation, or emerging technologies, with an applied, business-impact-driven approach.
