An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Senior Developer to join the Transaction Services team within Primary Care Services (PCS), NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership (NWSSP).
The successful candidate will play a key role in the design, development, maintenance and support of business-critical systems that support the prescribing, dispensing and management of medicines and devices across primary and secondary care settings in NHS Wales. Working within an Agile development environment, the post holder will take responsibility for the delivery of software development work packages, contributing across the full application lifecycle from requirements analysis and solution design through to development, testing, deployment and ongoing support.
The role requires a proactive and technically skilled individual who can work closely with stakeholders, customers and colleagues to deliver robust, secure and innovative digital solutions. The post holder will also provide technical leadership, mentoring and support to developers and trainees while ensuring that systems continue to meet the evolving needs of NHS Wales services.
Main duties of the job
The Senior Developer will
- Lead the design, development, testing, implementation and maintenance of software systems that support Primary Care Services across NHS Wales.
- Deliver development work packages using Agile methodologies and Application Lifecycle Management practices.
- Analyse business requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions.
- Develop and maintain applications using technologies including C#,.NET, SQL Server, Web APIs and modern web technologies.
- Investigate, diagnose and resolve application, data and system issues.
- Ensure technical documentation and user guidance are accurate and maintained.
- Work closely with stakeholders to gather requirements, manage expectations and provide technical advice.
- Participate in system design reviews, feasibility studies and technology evaluations.
- Support system testing and quality assurance activities.
- Mentor developers and trainees, contributing to knowledge sharing and professional development within the team.
- Identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement through emerging technologies and best practices.
- Contribute to the delivery of secure, reliable and high-quality digital services that support patient care and NHS operational objectives.

Skills and Attributes
Desirable criteria
- Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh
Qualifications And Knowledge
Essential criteria
- IT related degree or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of relational database design using Microsoft SQL Server 2019 or later
- Knowledge of at least two of the following technologies and languages:
-.NET Windows forms development (C#)
-.NET Framework Web Forms (C#)
- .NET MVC (C#) -.NET Web API (C#) -.NET Blazor (C#)
- Transact SQL
- JavaScript
- JQuery
- React
- MS SQL Server Integration Services
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of Azure Dev Ops
- Knowledge of Agile development methods
- Knowledge of Application Lifecycle Management
- Knowledge of Data warehousing
- Knowledge of XML
- Knowledge of Microsoft MVC
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of taking a lead role in systems development with an IT systems provider in an Agile development environment.
Desirable criteria
- Software development in or for the NHS.
- Experience working in the medicines field, either in a pharmacy or in the pharmaceutical industry
