Senior Developer

The role

We are looking for a Senior Developer to help build and scale the cloud platform behind our connected industrial products, a production industrial-IoT system that ingests telemetry from tens of thousands of sensors in customer plants, decodes and enriches it, runs engineering calculations over the resulting time series, and serves the results to internal engineering teams and to customers. You will work across that whole span: from LoRaWAN and Modbus device decoding, through time-series analytics, to the API and UI that engineers use every day. This is a hands-on senior engineering role. You will own features end to end: design, implement, test, deploy through CI/CD, and support in production. You will also help set the technical direction, raise the engineering bar around testing and infrastructure-as-code, and mentor colleagues across a distributed team.

Key responsibilities

  • Design and build backend services and APIs in C# /.NET 8 (ASP.NET Core) and TypeScript (Node.js), applying clean-architecture and domain-driven patterns, with automated tests as a first-class deliverable rather than an afterthought.
  • Develop event-driven and streaming data pipelines on Azure Functions, Azure Event Hubs and Azure Stream Analytics, decoding device payloads, enriching them against reference data, and computing derived engineering values in near real time.
  • Model and query large time-series and document datasets in Azure Data Explorer (KQL) and Azure Cosmos DB, with a clear eye on partitioning, query cost and retention.
  • Build and maintain the front end, a React 18 / TypeScript single-page application built with Vite, backed by a backend-for-frontend API, including accessibility, internationalisation and performance.
  • Own the infrastructure as code for the services you build, using Terraform and Bicep, and extend the Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines that deploy them across development, QA, staging and production.
  • Configure and operate the platform edge, Azure API Management and Azure Front Door, covering routing, authentication, rate limiting and certificate lifecycle.
  • Support the platform in production: instrument services, investigate incidents against logs and metrics, perform root-cause analysis, and close the loop with durable fixes.
  • Contribute to architecture and technical strategy, participate in design reviews, document decisions, and help plan the evolution of the platform’s data and integration architecture.
  • Raise the standard of the codebase through rigorous code review, refactoring, and clear written documentation for the engineers who come after you.
  • Mentor and support other developers, and collaborate closely with product owners, solution architects, QA and the wider engineering community across a remote-first team.

Essential skills and experience

We expect a strong track record of shipping and operating production cloud software, with practical depth in the following.

Backend and API Development

TechnologyWhat we are looking for

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

TechnologyWhat we are looking for
TypeScriptStrong typing discipline across both front end and back end
React 18Modern component patterns, hooks, and data-fetching / state libraries
ViteBuild and development tooling for a production single-page application

Desirable skills/experience

  • Industrial IoT, SCADA, telemetry or connected-product experience.
  • Device and protocol familiarity: LoRaWAN, Modbus, MQTT, or Azure IoT Hub device twins.
  • Time-series analytics or engineering-calculation workloads at scale.
  • Containerisation and Azure Container Apps or Kubernetes.
  • Observability practice: structured logging, distributed tracing, metrics and alerting.
  • Microsoft Entra ID / OAuth 2.0 authentication and authorisation in multi-tenant contexts.
  • Experience working within a regulated or safety-conscious industrial environment.

About you

  • A pragmatic engineer. You choose the simplest design that will hold, and you can explain the trade-off you made and why.
  • An owner. You take a problem from ambiguous request to running, monitored production software, and you stay with it afterwards.
  • A clear communicator. You write documentation and decision records that a colleague can act on without you in the room, essential in a remote-first team.
  • Collaborative and generous. You review thoughtfully, share what you know, and make the engineers around you better.
  • Curious about the domain. You want to understand the steam trap, the pump or the process behind the data, not just the schema it arrives in.
  • Comfortable with change. Our platform is actively evolving; you can deliver against a moving architecture without losing quality.

Why join us

You will work on a platform with a direct line to decarbonisation: the telemetry and calculations you build help industrial customers find steam leaks, cut fuel use and reduce emissions across thousands of sites. It is a genuinely greenfield-leaning cloud estate inside a stable FTSE 100 engineering group, modern Azure, real scale, real customers, and engineering decisions still open to be shaped.
