Senior Developer (Python)
Join a business going through one of the UK’s biggest digital transformation programmes, helping modernise a platform that supports millions of players while generating vital funding for good causes. This is a hands-on senior engineering role where automation, cloud infrastructure, and operational excellence sit at the heart of everything.
Role Overview:
- Location: Hybrid / Hertfordshire
- Package: £75,000 pa + bonus + extensive benefits
- Industry: Technology / Gaming / Digital Services
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Leading the design, deployment, and optimisation of automation and monitoring platforms across critical services and applications
- Building and maintaining scalable AWS infrastructure using Terraform, Ansible, and container technologies
- Developing CI/CD workflows and GitHub Actions pipelines to support seamless deployments across environments
- Creating monitoring dashboards, alerting systems, and observability tooling to improve operational visibility
- Driving automation initiatives to simplify processes and reduce manual intervention across the estate
- Supporting troubleshooting and capacity planning across complex infrastructure and gaming platforms
- Working closely with technical leadership to break down delivery plans into manageable engineering tasks
- Collaborating with product, delivery, and business teams to shape priorities and refine backlogs
- Promoting engineering standards, security best practices, and platform consistency across teams
- Supporting integration work using existing frameworks and scheduling tools while improving operational efficiency

Main Skills Needed:
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS infrastructure and cloud-native services
- Solid background using Terraform, Ansible, Docker, ECS/Fargate, and serverless technologies
- Advanced Python development skills, including scripting and Lambda functions
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions
- Strong understanding of observability and monitoring tooling such as Grafana, AppDynamics, Sensu, Logz.io, InfluxDB, or similar platforms
- Strong Linux/*nix administration and low-level troubleshooting capability
- Good understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, REST APIs, HTTPS, encryption, and certificates
- Exposure to modern development technologies such as NodeJS or Java
- Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, and Agile delivery environments
- Ability to work through ambiguity, prioritise effectively, and continuously improve systems and processes
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams
