Risk & P&L IT Senior Developer
Location: London (Hybrid, 3 days onsite)
Contract Length: 6 Months Initial Contract
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Risk & P&L IT Senior Developer to join a high-performing Global Markets technology team supporting critical Risk, P&L, and Front Office reporting platforms. This role will play a key part in the design, development, enhancement, and support of applications used across trading, risk management, and finance functions. The team is responsible for a large-scale Risk & P&L data warehouse alongside web-based reporting and sign-off applications used by Front Office stakeholders.
This is an excellent opportunity to work within a highly visible environment, partnering closely with traders, risk managers, business analysts, and technology teams to deliver strategic enhancements and drive best-practice software engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in the full Agile Scrum delivery lifecycle, including sprint planning, technical design sessions, development, testing, and release activities.
- Work directly with Front Office, Risk, and Finance stakeholders to gather requirements and define user stories.
- Design, develop, and maintain high-quality applications supporting Risk and P&L reporting and analysis.
- Deliver robust, well-structured, and maintainable code with appropriate unit and integration testing.
- Participate in code reviews and champion engineering best practices across the development team.
- Provide 3rd line production support and troubleshoot complex business-critical issues.
- Take ownership of strategic technology initiatives from design through to production deployment and support.
- Support and enhance CI/CD and DevOps pipelines, driving automation and continuous delivery practices.
- Refactor and modernise legacy components to improve platform scalability, maintainability, and performance.
- Mentor junior developers and contribute to the continual improvement of software engineering standards across the team.

Required Skills & Experience
Essential
- Significant software engineering experience with a proven track record of delivering complex enterprise systems.
- Strong knowledge of Python or C#/.NET development within enterprise environments.
- Experience developing applications in multi-threaded and distributed environments.
- Strong SQL development skills, including complex query optimisation and database design.
- Experience working with SQL Server, ClickHouse, or other high-volume data platforms.
- Experience building and consuming APIs and developing scalable backend services.
- Solid understanding of CI/CD, DevOps practices, version control, and automated testing.
- Experience within Agile/Scrum delivery environments.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Desirable
- Experience within Investment Banking, Capital Markets, Trading, Risk, or P&L environments.
- Knowledge of Risk Management, PnL Explain, Market Risk, or Front Office reporting systems.
- Experience with Angular, React, WinForms, or similar UI technologies.
- Exposure to cloud technologies including AWS or Azure.
- Experience with data warehouse and large-scale reporting environments.
- Previous experience mentoring developers and driving engineering best practices.
