About the opportunity
Via is partnering with a global SaaS technology business looking for an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to take ownership of its cloud infrastructure, reliability and deployment processes. The platform is used by major international organisations, so reliability, scalability and security are central to the role. You'll work closely with Engineering, QA and Security teams to maintain and improve a fast-moving AWS environment while helping shape how infrastructure and DevOps practices develop as the business grows.
This is a broad, hands-on position covering AWS, Linux, Docker, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, monitoring, incident management and site reliability engineering.
What you'll be doing
- Design, maintain and improve scalable AWS cloud infrastructure
- Develop and maintain monitoring and observability across the platform
- Identify and investigate the root causes of infrastructure and performance issues
- Manage Linux-based systems, web servers and relational databases
- Work with Nginx and MySQL, including performance optimisation and replication
- Build and manage containerised environments using Docker
- Work with Kubernetes or AWS ECS for container orchestration and scalability
- Build and maintain infrastructure as code using Terraform
- Develop and improve automated CI/CD pipelines
- Work with AWS services including EC2, S3, RDS, CloudFront and OpenSearch
- Own and improve incident management processes
- Participate in on-call processes and lead effective postmortems
- Define and monitor SLOs and error budgets
- Implement infrastructure security and DevSecOps best practices
- Manage areas including IAM, secrets, data protection and vulnerability management
- Support security and compliance requirements including GDPR and ISO standards
- Collaborate closely with Engineering, QA and Security teams
- Document infrastructure, incident and deployment processes
- Help shape technical standards and infrastructure strategy as the platform develops

What we're looking for
- 5+ years of experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, Systems Engineering, SRE or a closely related infrastructure role
- Strong hands-on AWS experience
- Good Linux systems administration knowledge
- Strong experience with Docker
- Experience with Kubernetes and/or AWS ECS
- Hands-on Terraform and infrastructure-as-code experience
- Experience building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Datadog or Grafana
- Good understanding of web infrastructure and servers such as Nginx
- Experience working with relational databases such as MySQL
- Understanding of database performance, reliability and replication
- Experience troubleshooting complex production infrastructure issues
- Knowledge of SRE practices including SLOs and error budgets
- Experience with incident management and postmortems
- Good understanding of cloud security, IAM, secrets management and data protection
- Confidence working across infrastructure, engineering and security rather than within a narrowly defined specialism
- Strong communication skills and fluent English
- Comfortable working independently within a distributed, remote engineering team

Previous experience within a SaaS or other high-availability technology environment would be particularly valuable.
Experience with Puppet would be useful but isn't essential.
You don't need experience with every tool listed. Strong DevOps, Platform or SRE engineers with solid AWS, Linux, containerisation and infrastructure-as-code experience are encouraged to apply.
