About The Role

The Insolvency Service, in partnership with Inspire People, is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to join their dynamic digital team. This pivotal role is based in multiple locations including Birmingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Exeter, Ipswich, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, or Nottingham, offering a hybrid working environment. The successful candidate will be instrumental in transforming the organisation’s cloud infrastructure and DevOps practices, facilitating a transition from a third-party managed environment to a fully in-house capability. This position offers a competitive salary ranging from £48,429 to £52,222, complemented by a discretionary Recruitment & Retention allowance of up to £11,000. The role offers an exciting opportunity to influence the future of cloud engineering within a critical public service organization, supporting vital functions that impact individuals, businesses, and the UK economy at large.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in cloud infrastructure and DevOps practices, particularly within Microsoft Azure environments. A strong background in Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD pipelines, and platform engineering is essential. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in creating, maintaining, and monitoring Azure PaaS and IaaS resources, with a proven track record of managing multiple applications across various environments in large enterprise settings. Expertise in writing and maintaining Bicep IaC scripts at an advanced level is required. Security clearance is a prerequisite, or candidates must be willing to obtain active clearance within the first six months of employment. Desirable skills include familiarity with Terraform, Microsoft Dynamics 365, PowerShell automation, C#/.NET development, and experience working with Microsoft Power Platform tools such as Power Apps and Power Automate.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise across Microsoft Azure platforms, shaping the organisation’s cloud strategy.
  • Design, build, and optimize Infrastructure as Code solutions and CI/CD pipelines to enable efficient and reliable deployment processes.
  • Enhance monitoring, observability, and operational performance of digital services to ensure high availability and resilience.
  • Ensure the security, stability, and operational continuity of both production and non-production environments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to standardize practices, improve engineering standards, and support the organisation’s digital transformation initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of secure cloud architectures, implement best practices in platform engineering, and support incident response and troubleshooting efforts to maintain service excellence.
