Spectrum IT Recruitment is working with a client looking for an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer with strong Kubernetes and AWS expertise to join their team on a six-month fixed-term contract.
This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role where you’ll help design, build and stabilise Kubernetes environments hosted in AWS across development, testing, and production. Working closely with Cloud, Development, and QA teams, you’ll resolve technical blockers, establish reliable infrastructure and deployment processes, and support the transition into production. You’ll also review existing container environments and identify practical improvements to security, resilience, and performance.
The Role
- Assess the existing Kubernetes platform and AWS infrastructure, identifying priorities, dependencies, and delivery blockers.
- Design, build, and configure secure, reliable, and repeatable Kubernetes environments.
- Troubleshoot issues across clusters, containers, AWS services, networking, storage, secrets, and deployment pipelines.
- Review and support other container environments, recommending improvements and opportunities to standardize.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code and automation to support consistent environment creation, changes, and recovery.
- Establish deployment, release promotion, and rollback processes across development, testing, and production.
- Improve platform security, monitoring, resilience, scalability, backup, and recovery.
- Work with developers, QA, and infrastructure colleagues to enable efficient deployment and testing.
- Produce clear documentation and runbooks, share knowledge with the internal team, and complete an effective operational handover.

Skills & Experience
- Strong, recent hands-on experience designing, building, and operating production-grade Kubernetes platforms.
- Extensive AWS experience supporting containerised workloads, including networking, IAM, storage, load balancing, monitoring, and security.
- Strong Kubernetes administration and troubleshooting skills, covering cluster architecture, upgrades, and workload deployment.
- Experience with Terraform and configuration automation using Ansible or equivalent tools.
- Knowledge of Helm, Kubernetes manifests, container registries, and Docker-compatible tooling.
- Experience integrating container environments with CI/CD pipelines, including automated deployment, testing, promotion, and rollback.
- Strong understanding of Kubernetes networking, ingress, DNS, certificates, storage, and secrets management.
- Experience with monitoring, logging, alerting, and platform observability.
- Good knowledge of Linux administration, scripting, security hardening, backup, and recovery.
- Practical experience supporting container platforms and runtimes outside Kubernetes.

What We’re Looking For
- You’ll be able to become productive quickly within an existing environment, diagnose complex issues, and focus on the highest-priority delivery challenges.
- Clear communication, a collaborative approach, and a commitment to documentation and knowledge transfer are essential. Previous experience delivering Kubernetes environments within a time-constrained programme would be particularly relevant.
- Kubernetes or AWS certifications are desirable, although practical delivery experience is the priority.
