Senior DevOps Engineer – Core Requirements
Experience
- 8+ years' experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Infrastructure Engineering roles.
- Proven ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision. Someone with drive to actively pull work and deliver.
- Experience operating within large enterprise environments.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Experience delivering large-scale transformation and migration projects.
Linux & Infrastructure
- Expert-level Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) administration.
- Strong Unix/Linux troubleshooting and support experience.
- On-premises infrastructure experience.
- Understanding of server lifecycle management, patching, upgrades, and operational support.
- Experience working closely with Unix, Middleware, Database, Network, and Security teams.
Scripting & Automation
- Strong Bash scripting capability.
- Strong Python development and automation skills.
- Experience automating operational, deployment, and infrastructure processes.
- Configuration management and infrastructure automation experience.
CI/CD & DevOps Tooling
- Significant experience with:
- GitLab
- Jenkins
- Ansible
- Git
- Designing, supporting, and troubleshooting CI/CD pipelines.
- Implementing DevOps best practices throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
- Source code management and branching strategy expertise.

Troubleshooting & Operations
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience supporting production and non-production environments.
- Ability to identify root causes and drive issues through to resolution.
- Experience supporting engineering teams with build, deployment, and platform-related issues.
Desirable Skills
Security / DevSecOps
- Experience implementing DevSecOps practices.
- Security-first mindset.
- Understanding of:
- Vulnerability management
- Secrets management
- Secure software delivery
- Certificate management
- Access control, authentication, and authorisation, e.g. PAM and IDAM
Infrastructure as Code
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC) experience.
- Automation and platform provisioning expertise.
Networking & Security Concepts
- Understanding of:
- TCP/IP
- DNS
- Load balancing
- Firewalls
- TLS/SSL certificates
Database Knowledge
- Good understanding of relational databases.
- Oracle administration or support experience highly desirable.
- Ability to troubleshoot connectivity and performance issues.
Monitoring & Observability
- Experience with:
- Monitoring platforms e.g. DataDog
- Logging platforms
- Alerting solutions
- Performance analysis and troubleshooting
- Understanding of observability principles.

Transformation & Migration Experience
- Experience delivering one or more of the following:
- Red Hat/Linux migration programmes.
- Platform modernisation initiatives.
- CI/CD tooling migrations.
- DevOps transformation projects.

- Enterprise infrastructure upgrade programmes.
- Data centre migration projects.
- Examples relevant to your environment:
- Jenkins to GitLab migration.
- Nexus to Artifactory migration.
- Vault platform migration.
- Legacy platform modernisation.
