Role Description

The Senior Digital, Data & Infrastructure Engineer is a full-time role based in Sheffield with a hybrid working pattern, combining on-site presence with some work from home. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining core digital infrastructure, ensuring secure, reliable, and high-performing systems that support clinical and operational services across the Trust.

  • Monitoring and managing networks and servers
  • Diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues
  • Overseeing system administration activities such as configuration, patching, and capacity planning
  • Collaborating with clinical and corporate teams to understand requirements
  • Contributing to digital transformation initiatives
  • Ensuring that data, systems, and services are resilient and compliant with relevant standards
  • Documenting technical processes
  • Mentoring junior team members
  • Participating in on-call or escalation support as required

Qualifications

  • Strong troubleshooting skills with experience diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues across digital, data, and infrastructure environments.
  • Proven expertise in infrastructure design, implementation, and maintenance, including servers, storage, cloud or virtualized platforms.
  • Solid system administration skills, including configuration management, patching, monitoring, and performance tuning of Windows and/or Linux environments.
  • Knowledge of networking concepts and technologies, including routing, switching, firewalls, and VPNs.
  • Experience with network security practices, including access control, encryption, vulnerability management, and compliance with security standards.
  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience in IT, computer science, engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., Cisco, Microsoft, CompTIA, ITIL) are desirable.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical stakeholders and to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in healthcare, public sector, or other highly regulated environments is an advantage.
