Since June 2025, Historic Newspapers and Wonderbly have been part of Penguin Random House. With our headquarters in London and additional offices in South West Scotland, we are driven by a shared mission to connect people with their passions through beautifully crafted books.
We're looking for a highly creative senior digital designer who loves bringing brands to life online. This is a hands on role where you'll be responsible for designing engaging website banners, creating eye catching social media content and developing compelling marketing campaigns across multiple digital channels.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in house for a premium ecommerce brand, where they've helped shape and evolve the digital identity of the business. You'll be comfortable balancing strong visual design with commercial thinking, understanding how creative work can drive engagement, strengthen a brand and improve conversion.
Responsibilities
- Design engaging digital experiences by creating website banners, landing pages, promotional assets and other digital content that brings our brand to life and helps drive customer engagement and conversion.
- Own the visual experience across our website by working closely with our ecommerce agency to create inspiring homepage features, campaign pages and product merchandising that reflect our premium brand and support commercial objectives.
- Create impactful marketing campaigns by designing creative assets for paid social, email marketing, display advertising and organic social channels, ensuring a consistent and compelling brand presence across every touchpoint.
- Bring motion into the brand by creating and introducing animation, video and other dynamic content that enhances the customer experience across our website, social media and digital marketing.
- Collaborate across the business by working closely with the marketing, ecommerce, trading and product teams to translate ideas into high quality creative that supports business goals.
- Champion exceptional design standards by helping to evolve our digital brand, contributing fresh ideas, keeping up with emerging design trends and ensuring every piece of creative reflects the quality of our products.
- Support and inspire the wider creative team by sharing ideas, offering constructive feedback and collaborating with designers to maintain consistently high creative standards.
- Embrace creative variety by getting involved in everything from product launches and seasonal campaigns to new digital initiatives and one off creative projects, bringing enthusiasm and attention to detail to every brief.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

- Excellent visual design skills with a keen eye for typography, layout, colour and user experience. You understand how to create engaging digital content that strengthens a brand and drives customer engagement.
- Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Experience with After Effects, Premiere Pro or similar tools for animation and video creation is highly desirable.
- Experience creating motion graphics, animation and video for websites and social media, with an understanding of how dynamic content can enhance the customer journey.

- Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
- A collaborative approach, with the confidence to work closely with marketing, ecommerce and product teams and to share ideas and constructive feedback with colleagues.
- Genuine enthusiasm for our brand. You'll be excited by the power of nostalgia, the history of the press and the stories behind the headlines, and you'll want to bring those stories to life through exceptional digital design.
- An interest in, or passion for, sport would be a real advantage. Sport is one of our largest and fastest growing categories, and an understanding of what makes moments memorable for fans will help you create engaging and authentic creative.
