I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About Our Client
Our client is a UK charity focused on funding research into the prevention, treatment and management of kidney disease. They work towards a future where kidney disease no longer limits people's lives, and for many decades the research they fund has been making an impact. But kidney disease is increasing as are the factors contributing to it, such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease and obesity, making their work more essential than ever.
Our client works with clinicians and scientists across the UK, funding and facilitating research into all areas of kidney disease. They collaborate with partners across the public, private and third sectors to prevent kidney disease and drive innovation to transform treatments.
Over the last ten years they have invested many millions of pounds into research. They lobby governments and decision makers to change policy and practice to ensure that the millions of people living with all stages of kidney disease in the UK have access to the most effective care and treatment, and to make kidney disease a priority.

Most importantly, they also work closely with patients, ensuring their voice is heard and is at the centre of everything they do, from deciding which research to invest in to how they plan their priorities and their work across the charity. Those patient contributions are vital, always helping them and their partners to understand what life is like with kidney disease, always ensuring they see the patient behind the treatment and always reminding them that behind every statistic and every number is a person – the patients and the carers who inspire their mission and push them forward to make a difference and change the future of kidney disease.
