About The Role

The Energy and Natural Resources team is one of our largest teams globally, working to build and protect reputational value for an exciting group of international clients in the energy and natural resources space, collaborating as one global team in the markets that matter most to our clients. This includes companies across integrated energy, clean tech and renewables, utilities and power generation, and mining and metals too.

We are a fast-paced team delivering cross-discipline communications support for a wide range of clients, from global leaders to new players. We deliver financial calendar work and transaction support, corporate communications and campaigning, as well as crisis consultancy, working with colleagues across the business to deliver multi-stakeholder communications, incorporating digital, public affairs, employee engagement and business transformation, and ESG. Operating as one truly global team our clients experience a truly international and specialist offering.

We have a genuine passion for the industry and seek to have a positive influence on both the sector and the society in which we operate in, supporting a number of businesses on a pro bono basis, including charity partners.

We are currently seeking a Senior Director to join our growing team in London. The role will support on existing clients as well as new business. The role includes the opportunity to work on global and cross-discipline briefs through collaborating with other teams and markets.

What You’ll Do

Deliver to Clients

  • Own and manage client relationships alongside senior team members; creatively prepare and deliver the client programme
  • Provide strategic advice to a portfolio of clients, manage accounts on a day-to-day basis and develop excellent relationships with clients and wider stakeholders
  • Developing campaigns and planning materials across clients which target multiple stakeholder groups and are multi-channel in activation
  • Supporting on issues management and working with senior colleagues to provide advice and develop required written materials
  • Deliver research and thought leadership proposals
  • Highly proactive approach to sourcing and creating client media opportunities, and ability to leverage strong book of media contacts
  • Ensure client programmes are agreed and project plans are in place
  • Bring a strong understanding of the news flow and media agenda, providing insights for clients to help shape their approach and strategy

Build the Business

  • Seek new business opportunities through leveraging network of contacts, and collaborating with colleagues
  • Work closely with senior team in developing new business proposals, and using previous experience to bring creative thinking and approaches to developing proposals
  • Proactively build relationships with media, industry and wider stakeholders, as well as potential clients

Team Involvement

  • Mentoring and training junior team members
  • Contribute to the team’s ambitions and initiatives to promote and improve DIB (Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging) within the firm and externally
  • Support senior management in ensuring team processes are in place and regularly share ideas on ways to evolve these
  • Share industry and media insights across the team

What You Will Need to Succeed

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience in the Energy and Natural Resources (“ENR”) sector
  • Previous experience in an in-house communications or communications consultancy role; candidates with a strong capital markets background will also be considered
  • Existing relationships with the communications teams in the ENR sector
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the industry and opinion formers, including media
  • Ability to develop and execute high impact campaigns, and case study examples of successful previous campaigns
  • Exceptional writing and research skills, with deep analytical capabilities to distil complex information into succinct messaging
  • A strong media contact book across the ENR sector

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some agency experience preferred – with demonstration of an entrepreneurial approach which has delivered new business opportunities by significantly shaping the strategic thinking of a pitch process
  • Be curious about the world with depth of understanding about geo-politics, business and finance
  • Experience in supporting previous employers to enhance and promote initiatives to support a more diverse or inclusive workforce
