Position Overview

This Senior Director – Legal role requires providing strategic, commercially focused legal advice for Tishman Speyer’s U.S. portfolio, including new transactions across multiple asset classes.

Key responsibilities involve:

  • Transaction leadership: Managing acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, and financings from concept (LOI) to closing.
  • Assets & agreements: Drafting/negotiating asset-level and investment agreements.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Partnering with development, design, finance, and investor teams.
  • Regulatory/compliance oversight: Analyzing legislative/regulatory changes and ensuring alignment with company policies.
  • Talent leadership: Directing external counsel teams and refining internal legal processes.
  • Growth support: Contribting to what is now Tishman Speyer’s $70B+ national portfolio.

Reports to: Managing Director of Legal.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Role & Partnership

  • Align with regional leaders across business lines to achieve portfolio and investment objectives.
  • Collaborate with frontline legal teams (internal/external) across deal stages—from startup to closure.

Transaction Execution

  • Negotiate, manage, and execute key agreements:
    • Joint venture agreements
    • Loan documents & purchase/sale agreements
    • Managed accounts and investment funds
  • Advise internal teams on project-level compliance (joint venture/loans) and entitlement processes.

Research & Risk Mitigation

  • Monitor and interpret multijurisdictional laws/regulations affecting projects.
  • Recommend policy/operational adjustments to safeguard compliance.

Operational Leadership

  • Supervise external law firms and optimize internal processes for efficiency.
  • Scale legal operations to support company growth.

Skills & Qualifications

Experience

  • 7+ years. Proven track record in real estate law (law firm and/or in-house).
  • Demonstrated ability to execute complex commercial real estate transactions incl. financing, development, and disposals.

Mindset

  • Strategic and analytical, able to convey technical legal concepts to non-legal teams.
  • Proactive, processes cross-checked for accuracy against business goals.
  • Results-driven, independent judgment with accountability.

Communication

  • Excerpt verbal and written insights for explanations, negotiations, or presentations.
  • Advise with “can-do” focus, adapting solutions for transactional flexibility.

Talent fit

  • Autonomous yet collaborative in high-pressure, dynamic environments.
  • Delegation skills with discretion, integrity, and professionalism.

Education & Licensing

  • Bachelor’s degree and JD from an accredited law school.
  • Active state bar membership.
