In this Senior Director role
You’ll lead the Renewals & Retention Asset Management function across Europe, owning the strategy that helps protect and strengthen long-term portfolio performance. Working as part of the Development leadership team, you’ll provide clear visibility of risk, lead portfolio-level forecasting and mitigation, and guide complex renewal, retention and asset management activity across both franchise and management agreements.
This position is based in Windsor, UK, operating on a hybrid basis with three office/travel days and two home working days.
Your day-to-day
You’ll set the strategic direction for Renewals & Retention across Europe while remaining close to high-impact deal activity, complex negotiations and key owner situations.
Working closely with regional Heads of Development, Divisional Managing Directors, Legal, Investment Analysis, Operations and other cross-functional partners, you’ll ensure IHG has a forward-looking view of portfolio risk and the right plans in place to retain strategic assets.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing, owning and continually evolving the Renewals & Retention strategy for Europe.
- Leading portfolio-level risk assessment, forecasting future exit risk, renewal priorities, ownership changes and potential hotel exits.
- Building strong relationships with owners, investors, brokers and internal stakeholders to support successful outcomes for IHG.
- Coaching and guiding the Director and Analyst within the team, providing strategic direction and deal support.
- Remaining closely involved in complex negotiations, work-out situations, contract restructures and strategic retention cases.
- Representing Renewals & Retention at key forums and committees, including growth, risk and leadership discussions.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
