We are currently supporting a major energy operator with the appointment of an experienced Drilling Superintendent to oversee drilling and well abandonment activities across its UK operations.
The successful candidate will provide operational leadership and technical oversight, ensuring drilling and abandonment programmes are executed safely, efficiently and in accordance with approved well programmes, regulatory requirements and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organise, implement and report on drilling and well abandonment operations.
- Ensure drilling and abandonment activities progress in accordance with approved well programmes.
- Provide technical and operational advice to rig-site personnel as required.
- Coordinate drilling services, materials and logistics to support operational requirements.
- Optimise the use and cost of transport, materials and manpower within agreed programmes and budgets.
- Administer drilling service contracts and monitor contractor performance and expenditure.
- Ensure offshore drilling activities comply with applicable UK legislation, company standards and procedures.
- Provide technical input during contractor and supplier pre-qualification and tender evaluations.
- Review requisitions, service tickets and service entries relating to drilling operations.
- Work closely with HSE teams to ensure effective integration between drilling contractor procedures and the operator's Safety Management System.
- Support the review of simultaneous drilling, production and decommissioning activities.
- Evaluate drilling contractor and service company performance and recommend improvements.
- Participate in the weekend duty rota where required.
- Deputise for the Well Construction Manager during periods of absence.
- Ensure drilling activities comply with environmental requirements and applicable UK regulations.
- Maintain full compliance with company Health, Safety and Environmental policies, procedures and standards.

- Extensive operational wellsite experience.
- Significant experience within drilling and well operations.
- Previous experience operating at Drilling Superintendent / Wells Superintendent / Well Operations Superintendent level.
- Strong knowledge of offshore drilling operations and UK regulatory requirements.
- Experience overseeing contractors, drilling services, materials and operational expenditure.
- Strong operational judgement and decision-making capability.
- Excellent planning, organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across offshore and onshore teams.
- Experience within well abandonment / P&A operations would be highly advantageous.
