Senior Drilling Supervisor

Location: Offshore
Discipline: Drilling & Well Operations

Role Purpose

The Senior Drilling Supervisor will act as the Company's offshore representative, overseeing the safe, efficient and effective execution of drilling and well operations in accordance with approved programmes, budgets, Company standards and applicable regulatory requirements. The role is responsible for coordinating rig activities, offshore personnel, contractors, service companies, equipment, materials and logistics, while maintaining effective communication between offshore operations and onshore teams.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Supervision

  • Supervise offshore drilling and well operations, ensuring activities are executed safely, efficiently and in accordance with approved programmes and Company objectives.
  • Represent the Company at the rig site on operational and technical matters, providing clear leadership and effective oversight of drilling activities.
  • Coordinate rig activities, personnel, equipment, materials and logistics to ensure operational readiness and minimise delays and non-productive time.
  • Act as the principal interface between offshore and onshore teams, ensuring clear communication and alignment on operational priorities.
  • Monitor drilling performance and contractor execution against approved programmes, contractual requirements and operational expectations.
  • Manage operational interfaces between the drilling contractor, service companies and other offshore personnel to ensure effective coordination and execution.
  • Identify operational risks, constraints and potential delays at an early stage and take appropriate action to maintain safe and efficient operations.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for operational improvement, efficiency and performance optimisation in collaboration with relevant teams.
  • Maintain accurate operational reporting, ensuring key activities, risks, performance issues and required actions are clearly communicated to relevant stakeholders.

Safety, Compliance & Assurance

  • Promote visible and proactive safety leadership offshore, maintaining a strong safety culture and ensuring compliance with the Company Safety Management System and HSEQ standards.
  • Ensure drilling and well operations comply with Company procedures, approved programmes, well integrity requirements and applicable HSE legislation.
  • Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, risk assessments and other operational assurance activities, ensuring identified actions are appropriately managed and closed before relevant operations commence.
  • Ensure operational risks are identified, assessed and controlled before and during the execution of drilling and well activities.
  • Support internal, contractor and corporate audits as required, ensuring findings and corrective actions are appropriately followed through to completion.
  • Maintain a strong focus on well integrity, barrier management and safe execution of critical drilling and well operations.
  • Comply with the Company Code of Ethics and all requirements associated with an HSE-critical role.

Cost Control & Logistics

  • Monitor daily operational costs and maintain strong cost awareness throughout the execution of drilling and well activities.
  • Support effective management of operational expenditure against approved budgets and identify potential cost risks at an early stage.
  • Ensure personnel, equipment, materials and consumables are available offshore when required to support planned operations.
  • Monitor material consumption, equipment availability and stock levels, raising timely requisitions to prevent shortages and operational downtime.
  • Coordinate with onshore logistics, supply chain and drilling teams to ensure the timely mobilisation and delivery of personnel, equipment and materials.
  • Monitor the efficient use of offshore resources and identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary expenditure, delays and non-productive time.

Skills & Experience

  • Relevant experience supervising offshore drilling and well operations in a senior supervisory capacity.
  • Strong practical understanding of drilling rig operations, well programmes, well integrity and offshore safety management.
  • Proven ability to coordinate offshore teams, drilling contractors, service companies and other operational stakeholders.
  • Experience managing operational logistics, material requirements, equipment availability and daily operational costs.
  • Practical experience participating in HAZOP, HAZID, risk assessments and other operational assurance processes.
  • Strong understanding of safe systems of work, operational risk management and HSE requirements within an offshore drilling environment.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to establish effective working relationships across offshore and onshore teams.
  • Sound operational judgement, with the ability to make timely and effective decisions in a dynamic offshore environment.
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving, operational improvement and performance optimisation.
  • Strong commitment to safe working practices, regulatory compliance, well integrity and continuous improvement.
