Senior Driver Position
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Driver to join a busy wine distribution operation based in Thurrock. This is a hands-on role, combining team coordination, office-based responsibilities and multi-drop driving. The successful candidate will play an important part in ensuring the delivery operation starts smoothly each morning before heading out on a shorter delivery route themselves.
The Role
Starting at 05:30am, Monday to Friday, you will begin the day in the office, helping to coordinate the driving team and ensuring all deliveries are ready to go. Your responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring all drivers have arrived and are ready to start on time.
- Allocating daily routes and work to drivers.
- Dealing with late or absent drivers and arranging suitable cover through agencies where required.
- Completing and updating emails, handovers and other operational communications.
- Liaising with the office and transport team to resolve any issues before drivers leave site.
- Ensuring drivers have the correct information and paperwork for their deliveries.
- Once the morning operation is organised, heading out on the road to complete your own shorter multi-drop delivery route.
- Delivering wine and other products safely and professionally to customer sites.
- Making deliveries to a variety of customers including hotel chains, restaurants, shops and other commercial customers.
- Providing excellent customer service at every delivery.
- Reporting any delivery, vehicle or customer issues to the appropriate team.

About You
We are looking for someone who has previous experience in a team leader, senior driver, transport office or similar operational role. The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience in a team leader, supervisor or office/transport coordination role.
- Professional driving experience, ideally within a multi-drop delivery environment.
- The ability to manage drivers and allocate work effectively.
- Confidence dealing with driver absences, lateness and last-minute changes.
- A professional and reliable approach to customer service.
- The ability to work independently and use your own initiative.
- Good attention to detail and the ability to remain calm in a busy environment.
- A flexible, hands-on attitude – this is a role that combines office and driving responsibilities.

What We Offer
- £14.90 per hour
- Monday to Friday
- 05:30am start
- 8-12 hr shift (Average 10 hr days)
- Temp-to-perm opportunity for the right candidate. Permanent salary is £31,000 + £3k worth of bonuses available.
