About The Role

We are seeking a skilled and innovative Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Engineer to join our team at our Gloucester site. This exciting role will involve working on advanced Research & Development (R&D), software-defined radio (SDR) systems, and payload development for a variety of Defence, Cyber, and Intelligence programmes. As a DSP Engineer, you will be at the forefront of innovation, applying your expertise to reverse engineer existing systems, develop new DSP algorithms, and design and integrate SDR platforms. You will also play a pivotal role in payload development and contribute to the continuous improvement of mission-critical technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reverse Engineering & Analysis – Hardware, software, and signals based reverse engineering of RF systems and waveforms to identify opportunities and improvements.
  • Software-Defined Radio Development – Develop and optimize SDR solutions using cutting-edge DSP techniques for electronic warfare and signals intelligence.
  • R&D and Algorithm Development – Design and develop new DSP algorithms to enhance the performance of SDR systems, focusing on signal detection, classification, and exploitation.
  • Payload Development – Contribute to the development of payloads for advanced communications systems, ensuring compatibility with both existing and future technologies.
  • Testing and Validation – Work closely with developers and testing teams to validate and optimize system performance through laboratory testing, real-world experimentation, and field trials.
  • Innovation – Embrace the use of the latest AI/ML tooling and hybrid cloud compute environments to deliver results that continually outpace and challenge the status quo.
  • Collaboration & Reporting – Use Agile principles and strong communication to work with peers and leaders to ensure that our delivery is providing the right solution on time.

Security Clearance

This role requires you to be able to obtain and maintain eDV security clearance.

You don’t need to hold eDV clearance when you apply. If you don’t currently have it, we’ll support you through the application process.

Required Skills, Qualifications, And Experience

It is expected that you can evidence prior experience and an ability to continue to grow in one of the following:

  • Working knowledge of digital signal processing, algorithm or payload development, and embedded system design
  • Working with RF communications and software-defined radio technologies & architectures, low level firmware, and systems integration
  • Reverse engineering RF systems and signal analysis
  • Commercial and Military communications stacks and modem development (e.g. IEEE 802.x, COFDM, Satcoms, or Link 16)
  • OpenCPI, GnuRadio, Python, C/C++, VHDL and other SDR development technologies

Desired Skills

  • EW or SIGINT capability development (including RF waveform and protocol vulnerability analysis)
  • Payload development for defence or covert communications systems
  • FPGA/RFSOC development experience and proficiency in VHDL (or Verilog)
  • Familiarity with GnuRadio, MatLab, AMD EDF or other SDR development tools
  • Radio characterisation, front end device design, antenna selection, and link budget optimisation
