Your new company
Our client is a growing environmental consultancy looking to recruit a Senior Ecologist. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced ecology professional seeking a predominantly office-based role focused on project management, technical reporting, and client delivery, rather than field survey work.
Joining a highly respected consultancy with a strong and expanding portfolio of infrastructure, renewable energy, and land development projects, you will play a key role in coordinating ecological projects from inception through to completion while delivering high-quality technical outputs to clients across the UK. This position would suit a Senior Ecologist looking to utilize their technical knowledge and project management experience within a flexible, supportive, and rapidly growing organization.
Your new role
As a Senior Ecologist, you will be responsible for leading and managing ecological projects, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, and producing high-quality ecological reports to support planning and development projects. The role is primarily desk-based, focusing on project delivery, report writing, technical review, and client liaison rather than undertaking ecological field surveys.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing ecological projects from proposal stage through to final delivery.
- Producing and reviewing a range of technical reports, including Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEA), Habitat Regulations Assessments (HRA), and protected species reports.
- Coordinating ecological survey data and ensuring high-quality technical outputs.
- Managing project budgets, programmes, and resource allocation.
- Liaising directly with clients, planning authorities, and project stakeholders.
- Supporting the preparation of fee proposals and tender submissions.
- Providing ecological advice to project teams across a diverse range of developments.
- Supporting ecological inputs into Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) where required.
- Contributing to Biodiversity Net Gain assessments and strategies.
- Assisting with protected species licencing applications and mitigation strategies.
- Mentoring junior consultants and assisting with their professional development.
- Supporting quality assurance processes and maintaining technical standards across projects.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
