Senior Economist, Corporate Strategy

As the Senior Economist, Corporate Strategy, you will work with the team to shape and support both the fundamental analysis of the underlying trends in the industry and leverage our knowledge base to support projects and strategic initiatives across the Group. This includes understanding the current and potential global macroeconomic developments, forming views, and translating their implications across core regions and industries. Specifically, you will be engaged in internal and external research and analysis, and engaging with the businesses on key assumptions for business and strategic planning. You will support strategy formulation, working with cross-functional teams across business units and other corporate functions departments (especially Group Finance, IR, and M&A).

Key responsibilities

  • Assess, develop views, and monitor global macroeconomic developments. This includes both near-term shocks (e.g., trade policy, energy shocks) and medium-term structural megatrends (e.g., AI, geopolitical fragmentation, climate change), as well as evolving global structural risks.
  • Analyse economic developments and translate their implications for core regions (China/US/EU/Brazil/India) and core steel end-use sectors (e.g., construction, heavy manufacturing, automotive).
  • Synthesise and communicate analysis to senior management. Respond to ad hoc requests from leadership.
  • Develop and maintain medium-term global macroeconomic and steel demand models, scenarios, and forecasts.
  • Help build and strengthen the economics capability within Corporate Strategy, including the management, coaching, and development of a junior economist.
  • Liaise with and leverage the expertise and information of regional business units, as well as providing support.
  • Build and maintain networks with external economists, industry associations, research institutions, and multilateral organisations.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
