Description
Are you a creative, commercially minded editor ready to take the next step up in your publishing career? HarperNonFiction is looking for a dynamic, detail-driven individual to join our Thorsons, Lifestyle, Gift & IP Editorial team.
HarperNonFiction is home to a wide range of bestselling authors and is one of the UK’s leading commercial non-fiction publishing divisions. Notable Thorsons, Lifestyle, Gift & IP successes include titles by Ben Lippett, Jay Shetty, Sarah Rossi, Becky Kennedy, the Royal Shakespeare Company and Freja.
As a successful candidate, you will possess strong desk editorial skills and have a proven track record of overseeing books from first manuscript, through copy-editing and proofreading all the way to final PDF. You will also possess excellent commercial instincts and be able to demonstrate strong market knowledge of lifestyle, cookery and gifts. A genuine passion for cookery and lifestyle as well as experience of working on illustrated cookery would be a distinct advantage. You will also be highly organised, proactive and confident juggling competing priorities, whilst delivering exceptional publishing and author care. In addition, you will be an excellent communicator and enjoy working co-operatively within our collaborative and supportive team. As your confidence grows in the role, you will have the opportunity to commission a small number of your own titles, making this an exciting opportunity for an ambitious editorial professional.
Your first six months
By the end of six months you would be managing projects confidently – including copywriting, structural edits, cover briefs and proofreading. You’ll also be encouraged to contribute book ideas and to share feedback on proposals with a longer-term view to commissioning 2–3 titles a year in the areas of Cookery and Lifestyle.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
