About Croydon
It is an exciting time to join Croydon council and if you are interested in making a positive difference to our residents and our borough, then we look forward to receiving your application.
About the role
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, highly motivated Senior Electoral Services Officer to join our small but busy Electoral Services team.
This post is being created to maintain service capacity and operational resilience within the Electoral Services team. The role will assume responsibility for part of the existing Senior Electoral Services Officer portfolio and will play a key role in ensuring the continued delivery of statutory electoral registration and election services.
Electoral Services is a high-profile and well-respected service responsible for delivering all statutory electoral functions, including electoral registration, the publication and distribution of the electoral register, and the administration of local and national elections and referendums.
Croydon is London's most populous borough, with an electorate of more than 280,000. The borough currently consists of three parliamentary constituencies in full and shares one constituency with the London Borough of Lambeth. Croydon is divided into 28 wards represented by 70 councillors. Following a governance referendum in 2021, Croydon adopted the Mayor and Cabinet model and elected its first directly elected Executive Mayor in 2022.
The successful candidate will hold, be working towards, or be willing to undertake the AEA Certificate in Electoral Administration.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Reporting to the Electoral Services Manager, you will play a key role in the management and coordination of electoral registration functions, including the annual canvass and associated initiatives aimed at maintaining the completeness and accuracy of the electoral register. In doing so, you will undertake responsibilities currently carried out by the existing Senior Electoral Services Officer and support the continued resilience of the service.
You will also contribute significantly to the planning, organisation and delivery of all elections and referendums conducted within the borough. A particular area of responsibility will be leading on the recruitment, training and management of temporary election and canvass staff.
The role requires a flexible approach to working arrangements. You must be prepared to work additional hours, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays, particularly during the annual canvass period and in the lead-up to elections. Due to operational requirements, annual leave may be restricted during peak electoral periods.
The closing date for applications is Sunday 1 November 2026 at 11:59pm. We anticipate that interviews will be held during the week commencing Monday 16 November 2026.
