Senior / Principal Electrical Design Engineer

Bridgwater, Somerset | £50,000–£60,000 + Benefits

2 days onsite and 3 days onsite the following week - so nice Hybrid role

We are working with a growing UK engineering and scientific equipment business looking for a Senior / Principal Electrical Design Engineer to take a key role across electrical design within a busy and expanding engineering group.

This is a hands-on engineering role, but with plenty of scope to influence how things are done. They need someone who can come in, take ownership of electrical design, drive projects forward and become one of the key technical people across the engineering team.

You’ll work across both new product development and an established product range, supporting projects from initial specification and design through testing, compliance, manufacture and release. The workload is growing, the projects are varied, and they need somebody comfortable taking responsibility and keeping things moving.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading electrical design across new and custom-engineered products
  • Producing electrical schematics and specifications
  • Driving electrical design from concept through manufacture and testing
  • Developing and improving existing products
  • Creating schematics and documentation for legacy products
  • Supporting PCB assemblies and external electronics suppliers
  • Working closely with mechanical, software, production and service teams
  • Supporting software and control-system testing
  • Taking ownership of electrical compliance and Technical Files
  • Supporting ATEX / CompEx product design and testing
  • Helping improve electrical design standards across the business
  • Troubleshooting electrical issues when something doesn’t quite behave itself

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What we’re looking for

You’ll probably already be operating at Senior Electrical Design Engineer, Lead Electrical Engineer or Principal Engineer level. More importantly, you’ll be comfortable taking technical ownership rather than simply being handed individual work packages.

Ideally, you’ll have experience across:

  • Electrical product design
  • Electrical CAD / schematic design
  • Controls, sensors, motors, fans and power supplies
  • PCB assemblies
  • Product development
  • Manufacturing environments
  • Electrical compliance
  • Technical documentation
  • Fault finding

Experience with ATEX, CompEx, scientific equipment, laboratory systems, machinery, HVAC, air handling or other engineered products would be particularly useful. SEE Electrical experience would be great, but experience with ePlan, AutoCAD Electrical or similar packages is absolutely relevant.

Why consider it?

The engineering group is growing and the project workload is increasing. They are looking for someone who can bring experience, structure and technical leadership to the electrical side of the business, while still staying close to the design work.

You’ll have genuine influence over how products are designed and developed, rather than joining a huge organisation where everything is already set in stone. For someone who enjoys being the person people turn to when there’s a difficult electrical problem to solve, this could be a very good move, and also could lead to natural engineering leadership opportunities as the team expands.

Package

  • £50,000–£60,000 depending on experience
  • Plus:
    • 25 days holiday
    • Company pension
    • Free electric vehicle charging
    • Additional company benefits
  • Permanent position
