About Your New Job as Electrical Design Engineer
- Lead the electrical aspects of MEP designs, collaborating closely with mechanical, BIM, and CDP teams.
- Oversee and lead project delivery from initial concept through detailed technical design stages, preparing calculations, schematics, specifications, and schedules.
- Ensure designs meet client expectations and comply with British Standards, building regulations, environmental frameworks (Part L, BREEAM, LEED), and contractual obligations.
- Participate in, and occasionally lead, design team meetings, technical workshops, and contribute to key project documents such as Engineering Reports and Basis of Design.
- Provide input during estimating, tendering, and value engineering as required.
- Manage timelines, budgets, risk assessments, and client expectations.
- Mentor junior engineers and support construction teams during project delivery.

What Skills You Need as Design Engineer
- Degree in Building Services Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
- 3+ years’ experience as an Electrical Design Engineer within the building services industry.
- Working knowledge of British Building Regulations, BS EN Standards, and CIBSE Guidance documents.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills with strong technical understanding.
- Working knowledge and experience using AutoCAD.
- Proficiency with IT tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, engineering analysis, and calculation software.

Desirable Qualities
- Chartered Membership of a Professional Body (IET/CIBSE/EI/SLL).
- Knowledge of sustainability frameworks (BREEAM/LEED/WELL).
- Experience with BIM processes, especially clash detection using Navisworks.
- Familiarity with modular MEP design for off-site construction.
