Are you an experienced Electrical Design Engineer looking to take the lead on complex engineering projects within a unique and highly regulated environment?
Do you enjoy designing electrical systems from concept through to completion while mentoring junior engineers and working closely with multidisciplinary project teams?
We're supporting a leading engineering and infrastructure organisation who are looking to recruit a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join their growing Design team based in Portsmouth.
Offering a salary of up to £65,000, this is an excellent opportunity to work on a diverse range of infrastructure and building services projects within a secure and technically challenging environment.
What's the role all about?
As the Senior Electrical Design Engineer, you'll lead the delivery of electrical design solutions across a wide range of infrastructure projects, taking schemes from concept through to completion.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you'll produce high-quality electrical designs, provide technical leadership and ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with current legislation and industry standards.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys remaining hands-on with design while influencing projects and mentoring junior engineers.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the design and delivery of electrical engineering projects from concept through to completion.
- Produce electrical designs, specifications, calculations and technical reports.
- Develop Statements of Requirement from client briefs.
- Complete Low Voltage electrical designs using Amtech.
- Undertake High Voltage studies using ETAP.
- Produce lighting designs using Relux or Dialux.
- Design a range of electrical infrastructure including:
- Low Voltage Distribution
- High Voltage Systems (up to 33kV)
- Lighting
- Small Power
- Solar PV
- EV Charging Infrastructure
- Building Services Installations
- Coordinate with Mechanical, Civil and Project Engineering teams.
- Undertake design reviews and ensure technical compliance.
- Prepare Design Risk Assessments and CDM documentation.
- Review subcontractor designs and provide technical approval.
- Support project delivery through procurement, commissioning and handover.
- Mentor and support junior engineers within the team.
- Promote engineering best practice and continuous improvement.

What you'll need
To be successful in this role you'll ideally have:
- Degree, HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering.
- Extensive experience delivering Electrical Building Services or Infrastructure Design projects.
- Strong knowledge of Low Voltage electrical design.
- Experience with High Voltage infrastructure (up to 33kV).
- Proficiency using Amtech.
- Working knowledge of ETAP.
- Experience producing lighting calculations using Relux or Dialux.
- Excellent understanding of current electrical regulations and standards.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Desirable
- Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status (or working towards).
- Experience within Defence, Infrastructure, Utilities or Facilities environments.
- Knowledge of SCADA systems.
- Experience mentoring engineers.
- Understanding of sustainable design and Net Zero initiatives.
