Astute’s Power Team is partnering with a professional engineering practice specialising in solar and battery energy storage system design, to recruit a Senior Engineer for its East Northamptonshire office.
The Senior Engineer role comes with an expected salary of £60,000-£65,000 per annum, negotiable depending on experience.

Responsibilities and duties of the Senior Engineer role
As a Senior Engineer, You Will
- Lead and support solar PV and battery energy storage projects from concept through construction and operation.
- Produce electrical and power-system designs, detailed drawings, schedules, specifications and engineering calculations.
- Undertake yield simulations, performance modelling, design optimisation, grid connection studies and feasibility assessments.
- Attend office and site meetings and survey prospective sites, construction works and operational installations.
- Provide technical support, investigate engineering issues and prepare professional reports and critical studies.
- Conduct design and peer reviews, design risk analysis and other CDM or safety-in-design activities.
- Work directly with clients, contribute to proposals and tenders, and supervise junior engineering staff where required.

Professional Qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following qualifications and experience:
- Degree-level or higher qualification in a relevant STEM discipline.
- At least five years’ electrical-system design experience to UK standards on projects delivered into construction.
- Demonstrable experience of industrial electrical distribution systems, including PV systems above 1MW, power systems at 11kV or above, or industrial M&E projects.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Autodesk AutoCAD; knowledge of PVSyst and Trimble (Amtech) ProDesign would be advantageous.
- A sound theoretical background with the ability to complete calculations, solve novel engineering problems autonomously and critically review technical work.
- Fluent written and spoken English, with the ability to communicate designs clearly through reports, drawings and presentations.
- Membership of, or eligibility for, an accredited engineering institution, a full driving licence and an existing right to work in the UK.

Salary and benefits of the Senior Engineer role
- Expected salary of £60,000-£65,000 per annum, negotiable depending on experience
- Permanent, full-time position working 40 hours per week
- Varied work across commercial rooftop, solar park and battery energy storage projects in the UK and overseas
- Professional development support, including encouragement towards MIET and Chartered Engineer accreditation
- Partial remote working may be considered for the right candidate
- Start as soon as possible for the right candidate
