Senior Electrical Engineer (Building Services) – Major Projects
Job Overview
Job Title: Senior Electrical Engineer x 3
Location: Liverpool
Contract: 12 months + / ongoing
Start Date: ASAP
Working Hours: 40 hours per week
Rate of Pay: £40.00 – £55.00 per hour
Umbrella PAYE: (IR35: Inside scope)
Location: Speke, Liverpool (Hybrid) – the client is open to candidates being based out of their other offices such as Manchester/ Leeds.
Project: MOD, Education and Healthcare related projects.
Security & Site Requirements
- Basic DBS: Required
- BPSS: Required
Role Purpose
The Senior Electrical Engineer will take full responsibility for the preparation of electrical designs and technical advice for large, complex construction projects. The role will involve leading electrical design activities, developing sustainable and cost-effective solutions, and ensuring high-quality, compliant design delivery from concept through to construction. The position will also involve working closely with clients, contractors, architects, and multidisciplinary design teams. The role profile confirms that the position is responsible for electrical design on large, complex construction projects and for leading the electrical design team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality electrical designs and specifications that meet client requirements and project briefs.
- Undertake and lead professional services associated with electrical design across allocated projects and clients.
- Provide high-level technical advice in electrical building services engineering.
- Represent electrical engineering at project design meetings, establishing solutions, agreeing concepts, and working closely with other design team members.
- Lead the delivery of coordinated electrical design solutions through to project completion.
- Lead and support electrical design teams on large and complex projects.
- Coordinate electrical design with other engineering and design disciplines.
- Develop and promote engineering standards and best practice.
- Develop innovative solutions to enhance M&E services, including the implementation of initiatives such as BIM.
- Provide budget costs and pre-tender estimates as required.
- Work collaboratively with clients, architects, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication and coordination.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant building regulations, industry standards, and applicable design procedures.
- Promote sustainable design solutions throughout the project lifecycle.
- Identify and resolve technical and logistical challenges during design and construction.
- Maintain and share knowledge of relevant professional and technical standards.
- Maintain effective communication with senior management regarding project output, progress, cost, and risks.
- Apply all relevant health and safety policies and requirements.

These responsibilities are based on the supplied role profile, including its requirements around design quality, technical leadership, stakeholder collaboration, compliance, sustainability, problem-solving, and project cost/risk reporting.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Degree in Electrical Building Services Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
- Membership of CIBSE or IET.
- Chartered Engineer status, or currently working towards chartership.
- Significant experience demonstrating the capability to fulfil the responsibilities of the role.
- High level of technical knowledge and experience within electrical building services engineering.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to a wider business audience.
- Experience applying quality procedures and document control within engineering design.
- Ability to successfully pass BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) requirements.
