Description
Harmony is on a mission to be the best life safety partner to work with and for. Rated an ‘Outstanding Employer’ by Best Companies in 2025, we are only getting bigger and stronger — and we’re looking for A-players to help us get there.
We are passionate about making a difference and obsessed with quality. Our goal is to build a world where every resident can sleep safely at night, knowing their home is 100% safe.
Auro Technology is Harmony’s in-house hardware and technology division — designing and developing the life safety devices, sensors, and connected systems that underpin our fire safety offering. We are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join the Auro Hardware R&D team, taking a lead role in the design, development, testing, and certification of our electronic hardware products from concept through to production.
This is a hands-on senior engineering role. You will own the electrical design of hardware products, lead PCB design and bring-up, and work closely with firmware, mechanical, and product teams to deliver life safety devices that are technically excellent, certifiable, and built to last. If you thrive on solving hard engineering problems, take pride in the quality of your schematics, and want to work on hardware that genuinely saves lives — read on.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the electrical design of Auro hardware products from concept through to production — including schematic capture, component selection, PCB layout review, and design for manufacture (DFM).
- Own hardware bring-up and validation — debugging new board designs, identifying and resolving electrical issues, and ensuring designs meet specification before firmware integration.
- Define and execute hardware test plans, characterising performance, validating against product specifications, and documenting results to support certification.
- Lead or support product certification activities — including EMC, electrical safety (e.g. UKCA, CE), and relevant life safety standards — working with test houses and certification bodies as required.
- Work closely with the firmware team to ensure hardware and software integration is clean, well-understood, and properly documented.
- Collaborate with mechanical and industrial design colleagues to ensure hardware designs are physically realisable, thermally managed, and manufacturable.
- Manage relationships with component suppliers and contract manufacturers, supporting the transition of designs from prototype to volume production.
- Produce and maintain high-quality engineering documentation — schematics, BOMs, test reports, design history files, and technical specifications.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers within the hardware team.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the hardware development process — including design reviews, version control, and documentation standards.
- Stay current with developments in relevant technologies, components, and standards, bringing ideas that improve the quality and capability of Auro’s hardware products.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
