Senior Electrical Design Engineer – Building Services

Buckinghamshire (hybrid) or fully remote for London-based candidates
£50,000 – £55,000 + benefits (5k car allowance)

A great opportunity to join a well-established building services engineering consultancy with a varied portfolio covering commercial, residential, retail, education, healthcare, industrial, hospitality, leisure and sport, student accommodation, historic and public buildings.

There are two ways to work:

  • From the Princes Risborough office with hybrid working, or
  • Fully remote, based in central London, looking after the practice's London clients

Job overview

You'll lead the design of electrical building services from inception to completion on a wide variety of interesting and prestigious schemes.

Key responsibilities

  • Attend client and design team briefings to establish project criteria
  • Develop system options with the Director or Associate during design development
  • Carry out initial space planning for plant rooms and primary services routes
  • Prepare initial budget costings and monitor cost implications as designs develop
  • Attend design team and site meetings, as the sole representative where appropriate
  • Survey existing installations to assess their condition and suitability for re-use
  • Carry out principal electrical design calculations (lighting, cable sizing, distribution board schedules) using design software
  • Produce tender-quality drawings in AutoCAD / Revit in line with QA procedures
  • Liaise with utility companies on record information and quotations for new supplies
  • Obtain quotations from manufacturers and select switchgear, light fittings and other equipment based on calculated loads
  • Deal with contractor site coordination queries and snag installed systems
  • Manage your own workload and work with the CAD / Revit and admin teams to meet client deadlines

Requirements

  • Degree or HNC/HND in Electrical or Building Services Engineering
  • Solid UK experience in electrical building services design, ideally within a consultancy
  • Confident leading designs from concept to completion and representing the practice in meetings
  • Strong on design calculations: lighting, cable sizing, distribution and load calculations
  • Experience with design software such as Amtech, DIALux or Relux
  • AutoCAD and / or Revit
  • Good working knowledge of BS 7671 and UK standards
  • Experience surveying existing installations and dealing with contractors on site
  • Full UK driving licence (for site visits)
  • IEng / CEng, or working towards it, is an advantage
