Purpose of the Job

This is an experienced electrical engineering role based in PPA's London office, responsible for the delivery of electrical design across data centre and mission-critical facilities in the UK and international markets. The role delivers technical electrical design tasks, coordinates with other disciplines, and provides mentoring and technical guidance to junior engineers within the project team.

The successful candidate will:

  • Deliver electrical design across data centre and mission-critical projects
  • Coordinate technical design with mechanical and other disciplines and specialist teams
  • Provide technical mentoring and guidance to junior and intermediate engineers
  • Support client engagement during technical discussions and design coordination
  • Contribute to construction-stage technical resolution and site support activities

Job Accountabilities

Design Delivery

  • Deliver electrical design across concept, schematic, detailed design and construction-support stages.
  • Prepare and review calculations, specifications, reports, drawings and submissions.
  • Ensure compliance with UK standards (BS 7671, Building Regulations), international standards and client requirements.
  • Provide technical input to resolve design and coordination challenges.

Project & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Coordinate with mechanical, public health, structural, architectural and specialist disciplines.
  • Participate in technical workshops, design reviews and client meetings.
  • Support project leads with technical progress reporting and quality checks.

Technical Support (Construction & Delivery Stage)

  • Support construction-stage design clarifications and technical responses.
  • Participate in site visits and assist in resolving design-related issues.
  • Review commissioning inputs to help ensure design intent is achieved on site.

People Support

  • Provide technical mentoring and guidance to Intermediate and Associate Engineers.
  • Support development of engineering capability within the electrical team.
  • Promote design consistency and best practice standards.

Technical Knowledge

Strong knowledge and hands-on experience required across:

  • Data Centre and mission-critical facility electrical design.
  • Electrical infrastructure resilience and redundancy philosophies (N+1, 2N, Concurrent Maintainability).
  • LV/MV power distribution, standby generation and UPS system design.
  • UK DNO connection processes (G98/G99/G100) and switchgear/protection coordination.
  • Building Management Systems (BMS) integration.
  • Coordination of multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • UK standards (BS 7671, Building Regulations) and international standards (IEC, NFPA, Uptime Institute, EN 50600).

Qualifications & Education

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (accredited university).

Experience

  • 6–10 years of relevant consultancy experience.
  • Demonstrated delivery of Data Centre / mission-critical electrical design.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Experience in international engineering consultancy environments.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Chartered Engineer (IET) or working towards professional accreditation.
  • Experience with UK regulatory requirements and client base.
  • Exposure to Tier III / IV data Centre design.
  • Good commercial awareness of project delivery.
