Senior Electrical Engineer
7 Steel UK – Cardiff
Competitive Salary
Joining our Rod and Bar Mill Team as a Senior Electrical Engineer, your days will be exciting and varied. Your time will be spent between the offices, and down on the plant, so no two days will look the same. Some of your key responsibilities will include:
- Planning, prioritising, scheduling, and managing electrical activities (e.g. planned maintenance programmes, shutdowns, and emergency repairs) to rectify breakdowns and minimise business disruption.
- Provide technical advice and support to other electrical and automation engineers in the department, including root cause analysis, fault finding, and implementation of corrective and preventative actions.
- Prioritising health and safety policies in all areas of your work, and leading by example.
You will have extensive experience working in the Electrical or Automation Engineering fields, preferably in a hot rolling mill. Because of this, you will have the technical expertise to support the training and development of the engineering team, as well as contribute within the wider team to ensure the successful running of the mill. Most importantly, you will bring passion, purpose, and a continuous improvement mindset, as well as a strong focus on health and safety.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
