Job Title: Senior Electrical Engineer
Location: Remote – Occasional trips to Heathrow
Contract: Initially 12 Months
Sector: Aviation
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with site teams to develop and implement:
- Electrical Maintenance Procedures
- Risk Assessments
- Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules
- Identify gaps within existing maintenance processes and assist in developing plans to address them.
- Support the rollout of maintenance standards and best practices across the site.
- Ensure compliance with relevant electrical, safety, and industry regulations.
- Promote a strong safety culture and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Degree in a relevant engineering discipline, such as:
- Electrical Engineering
- Electronic Engineering
- Control Engineering
- Relevant apprenticeships may also be considered.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status with a recognised professional body, or demonstrable progress towards achieving professional registration.

Technical Experience
Essential:
- Strong knowledge of electrical design, maintenance practices, and installation requirements within aviation or similar highly regulated industries.
- Experience working to JIG 2 (Joint Inspection Group) standards for aviation fuel quality control, airport depots, and hydrant operations.
- Knowledge of Energy Institute (EI) standards and technical guidance relating to aviation fuel handling.
- Good understanding of UK electrical regulations and industry standards.
- Knowledge of hazardous area installations and requirements for equipment operating in potentially explosive atmospheres.
- Awareness of risk identification, assessment, and management, together with HSE legislation and best practices.
- Minimum 5-10 years' engineering experience within the aviation, fuel storage, oil & gas, petrochemical, or similar sectors.

Core Electrical Regulations & Guidance:
- Hazardous Area Classification: Understanding of ATEX, DSEAR, and related requirements for electrical installations around fuel storage facilities, depots, and hydrant systems.
- Bonding & Earthing: Experience ensuring electrical continuity, main and supplementary bonding, and earth electrode resistance compliance to mitigate static electricity risks during fuel transfer operations.
- Inspection & Testing: Knowledge of BS 7671 requirements and CompEx principles for electrical installations in hazardous and non-hazardous environments.
- Cathodic Protection: Familiarity with relevant Energy Institute guidance, including EI 1540.
Desirable:
- Experience with CE marking requirements for plant and equipment, including:
- ATEX
- PED (Pressure Equipment Directive)
- Low Voltage Directive
- Machinery Directive
- EMC Compliance
