The Role
As a Senior Electrical Technician, you will play a key role in delivering a high-quality electrical maintenance and installation service across Coventry University Group's diverse estate. You will undertake a varied workload of reactive maintenance, planned preventative maintenance (PPM), fault finding, inspection and testing, and electrical installation works, ensuring our buildings and infrastructure remain safe, operational, and fully compliant with statutory regulations and industry standards.
Working across multiple campuses and sites, you will diagnose and resolve electrical faults, carry out inspections and manage Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs), complete remedial works, and support refurbishment and new development projects. You will also work closely with contractors, colleagues, and stakeholders to ensure electrical works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.
This is a hands-on senior role combining technical expertise with leadership responsibilities. You will support the Electrical Services Manager with the planning and allocation of work, provide guidance to apprentices and team members, and help ensure maintenance activities are carried out safely, effectively, and in compliance with relevant regulations. Through your technical knowledge and proactive approach, you will contribute to the continuous improvement of services, contribute to maintaining safe, comfortable, quality assurance activities and sustainable environments for students, staff, and visitors.

Our Successful Candidate
We are looking for an experienced electrical professional with a strong background in commercial or industrial electrical maintenance, installation, testing, and fault finding. This role would suit an experienced Electrician, Electrical Technician, Maintenance Electrician, Electrical Engineer, or a senior-level electrical professional looking to further develop their career within a large and varied estate environment.
You will hold a City & Guilds Level 3 qualification in Electrical Installation or Maintenance, be qualified to BS 7671 (18th Edition Wiring Regulations), and possess Inspection and Testing qualifications such as City & Guilds 2391 or equivalent. You will have significant experience working on single and three-phase electrical systems, lighting control systems and be confident undertaking testing, inspections, certification, and remedial works.
The successful candidate will have proven fault-finding and diagnostic skills, be able to interpret electrical drawings, and have a strong understanding of current electrical legislation and safe working practices, and the confidence to liaise with suppliers, manufacturers, contractors, and stakeholders when technical advice is required, experience supervising or mentoring colleagues would be advantageous, alongside knowledge of various lighting control systems and motor control circuits.

You will be a proactive and practical problem solver with excellent communication skills, capable of working independently and as part of a wider team, participate in the out-of-hours emergency call-out rota, and work flexibly to meet operational demands. In return, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the maintenance and development of a diverse estate while supporting the delivery of an excellent experience for our students, staff, and visitors.
As this role supports multiple locations across the Coventry University Group estate, you must be willing to travel to regional campuses including Scarborough, Milton Keynes, Central London, and Dagenham as required. Occasional overnight stays may be necessary.
