Senior Electronic Power Supply Design Engineer

Location: Crawley, Surrey
Salary: Up to £70,000 + Benefits
Type: Permanent - Hybrid

Are you a highly experienced Power Supply Design Engineer looking for a senior technical role where you can take ownership of complex projects from concept through to production?
We are seeking a proven engineering professional with deep expertise in power electronics and power supply design to join a growing engineering team. This position is suited to a senior-level engineer who enjoys solving challenging technical problems, influencing design decisions, and delivering robust, high-reliability products for demanding environments.

The Role

As a Senior Power Supply Design Engineer, you will lead the design and development of advanced power supply solutions, working closely with multidisciplinary teams across mechanical, manufacturing, test, and purchasing functions. You'll play a key role in technical decision-making, customer engagement, and the successful delivery of projects throughout the entire product lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead power supply design projects from concept through to production.
  • Select and develop appropriate SMPS topologies to meet performance and reliability requirements.
  • Carry out circuit design, simulation, analysis, and optimization.
  • Design magnetics including transformers and inductors.
  • Develop products capable of operating in harsh EMC and environmental conditions.
  • Lead debugging, verification, and validation activities.
  • Review and influence PCB layouts, ensuring best practice for EMC, thermal performance, and manufacturability.
  • Support customer meetings, technical reviews, and project discussions.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes and tools.

About You

We're looking for a technically accomplished engineer with significant experience in power electronics and a demonstrable track record of taking complex designs from concept to delivery. You will be comfortable operating as a technical lead, influencing stakeholders, and providing engineering expertise across multiple projects.

Essential Experience

  • Extensive experience in power supply design and development.
  • Strong knowledge of SMPS topologies, circuit design, and component selection.
  • Expertise in magnetics design and PCB layout review.
  • Experience designing products for challenging EMC and environmental requirements.
  • Proven hands-on debugging, validation, and fault-finding capability.
  • Ability to produce and review technical documentation and work to recognized industry standards.
