Hutchinson Stop-choc is a leading manufacturer of anti-vibration and shock isolation mountings, avionics racking, illuminated control panels & display systems for aerospace, defence and industrial markets, both in UK and across the globe.
Job Role
We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior Electronics Design Engineer to join our Control & Display Systems (CDS) team. You will lead electronic hardware development from requirements capture and concept design through schematic design, PCB development, verification and production support.
This is a hands-on technical role involving close collaboration with electronics, test, mechanical, manufacturing and sales teams, as well as customers, suppliers and subcontractors. You will also support technical estimating and the preparation of bills of materials for new projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Design analogue, digital, mixed-signal, power-supply and LED-driver circuits.
- Translate customer and system requirements into practical, verifiable electronic designs.
- Produce schematics, PCB designs, bills of materials and manufacturing documentation using Altium Designer.
- Lead design reviews and engineering verification and validation activities, including test planning, protocols and reports.
- Perform engineering calculations, circuit simulation, tolerance analysis and component selection.
- Develop and test prototype circuits, cable assemblies, test equipment and production fixtures.
- Conduct systematic fault-finding, root-cause investigations and corrective-action activities.
- Support environmental and EMC testing and resolve issues identified during qualification.
- Support applicable aerospace compliance activities, including DO-160 and DO-254, where required.
- Estimate the cost, timescale and technical scope of new design concepts and identify project risks and mitigations.
- Support PCB manufacture, prototype assembly, production introduction and ongoing product improvement.
- Manage component lifecycle risks, including availability and obsolescence.
- Contribute effectively across multiple concurrent projects and provide technical guidance to other engineers.

Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent qualification or experience, in electronics, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering or a related discipline.
- Substantial professional experience in electronic hardware design; approximately 10 years’ experience is preferred for this senior-level position.
- Strong experience in analogue, digital and mixed-signal circuit design.
- Experience of schematic capture and PCB development using Altium Designer or a comparable professional ECAD package.
- Practical knowledge of PCB layout, design for manufacture, prototype assembly and electronic test equipment.
- Experience of design verification, debugging, fault-finding and root-cause analysis.
- Strong understanding of EMC-conscious circuit and PCB design.
- Ability to prepare clear engineering documentation and communicate effectively with customers, suppliers, subcontractors and colleagues.
- Strong organisation, attention to detail, problem-solving and project-planning skills.

Desirable Experience
- Experience in aerospace, defence, medical devices or another safety-regulated manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of DO-160, DO-254, AS9100 and relevant IPC standards.
- Understanding of RoHS and REACH requirements and their application to electronic products.
- Experience with LCD/TFT displays, video interfaces, touchscreens, LED lighting or display-driver circuits.
- Embedded firmware or FPGA development experience.
- Experience of reliability prediction, MTBF calculations and component-obsolescence management.
- Knowledge of PCB fabrication, assembly and inspection processes.
