Senior Electronics Engineer
📍 Cardiff – Hybrid (3 days on-site, 2 remote)
💰 £60k – £70k + bonus
An established business in Cardiff is growing its hardware team and needs an experienced Electronics Engineer to take ownership of board-level design, test and compliance. You'll see products through every stage, from early concept work to volume manufacture, and work with in-house teams, contract manufacturers and suppliers.
🔧 The role
- Own hardware design for upcoming products, bringing in new technologies where they add value
- Assess early builds and production samples, working with product, manufacturing and supplier teams to sign them off
- Write and run test and validation plans with the wider design team
- Verify electrical system performance against requirements
- Fault-find and optimise boards in the lab and in live field conditions
- Investigate failures, find the root cause and feed fixes back into the design
- Build quick-turn prototype boards and small sub-assemblies for in-house testing
- Look after EMC compliance across new products and the existing range
- Keep test and validation processes documented and up to date
- Share findings and recommendations with internal stakeholders and external partners

✅ About you
- Electronics, Physics or related degree, or equivalent hands-on experience
- 8+ years experience in industry
- Taken products from concept through to high-volume production
- Confident with Altium (or an equivalent ECAD tool) for schematics and layout
- Experience designing and validating dense, high-speed PCBs
- Practical EMC testing and compliance knowledge
- Strong lab-based debugging and failure analysis skills
- Comfortable building prototypes and setting up bench tests
- Happy working to tight deadlines with partners in different time zones
- Organised, proactive and equally effective solo or in a team
- Clear communicator at all levels
- Open to some international travel
