Senior Electronics Engineer
Electronics Design | Embedded Firmware | Analogue & Digital | EMC | DFM/DFA
Are you an experienced Electronics Engineer who enjoys taking technically challenging products from an initial idea all the way through to manufacture?
Do you want the freedom to work across electronics, embedded firmware and complete product development, rather than being limited to one small part of the engineering lifecycle?
Would you enjoy becoming a senior technical voice within an R&D team, while still remaining close to hands-on engineering?
Our client is looking for a Senior Electronics Engineer to join its R&D team and play an influential role in developing new products and improving established designs.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys variety. You’ll be able to combine analogue and digital electronics, PCB design, embedded software, communications technologies and elements of mechanical design, while seeing your work progress from feasibility and prototyping through to production.

You’ll have the opportunity to:
- Own electronics development across the full product lifecycle, progressing designs from early concepts and feasibility through development, verification, production release and ongoing improvement.
- Design sophisticated analogue and digital electronics, including microprocessor-based systems and associated circuitry.
- Develop embedded firmware, translating requirements into well-structured, tested and maintainable software while working with version control and release processes.
- Turn prototypes into production-ready products, applying DFM and DFA thinking to create robust, practical and manufacturable designs.
- Build your experience of EMC and product compliance, supporting testing, approvals and the transition of new designs into full production.
- Explore connected product technologies, contributing to wired and wireless communications including Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity.
- Work beyond the PCB when required, creating or contributing to mechanical components such as housings, frames and engineering test equipment.
- Take ownership of complex development projects, planning engineering activity, managing priorities and adapting plans as projects evolve.
- Solve real engineering problems, investigating technical issues and working collaboratively with colleagues across R&D, production and other business functions.
- Shape future products, evaluating new ideas, technologies and potential product improvements and turning promising concepts into practical proposals.
- Become a technical mentor, sharing knowledge with developing engineers and helping strengthen engineering practices across the team.
- Have a voice in technical decisions, constructively challenging assumptions and contributing ideas that improve products, processes and engineering standards.

About You
You’ll be joining a role designed for someone who has already built strong electronics expertise and now wants the scope to apply it across complete product development.
You’ll get to work with analogue and digital electronics, embedded microprocessors, firmware development environments, PCB design tools, communications technologies and production engineering processes.
The ideal background is a blend of hardware and embedded software experience, with enough commercial product-development exposure to understand what it takes to move from a technically successful design to something that can be reliably manufactured, approved and supported.
Experience in areas such as the following would be particularly useful:
- Strong analogue and digital electronics design knowledge.
- Hands-on hardware development and embedded firmware/software experience.
- PCB and microprocessor-based product development.
- Experience taking products from feasibility or concept through to production.
- Understanding of design for manufacture and assembly (DFM/DFA).
- Exposure to EMC testing, product approvals, certification or compliance.
- Wired and/or wireless communications experience, particularly Wi-Fi or cellular technologies.
- Experience planning or leading complex engineering development activities.
- An Electronics Engineering degree, related technical qualification or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience supporting, mentoring or providing technical guidance to other engineers.
