Our chargers combine distinctive design with intelligent technology and include features such as our patented hidden cable solution. We work with leading automotive brands and continue to expand our product range and engineering capability.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Electronics Hardware Engineer to join our Product and Technology team and support the design, development, validation, and continuous improvement of the electronics used within Andersen EV charging products.

Role Summary

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for the hardware design and development of Andersen PCBs and associated electronic systems.

This is a hands-on hardware engineering role covering the full development lifecycle, including:

  • Circuit design
  • Schematic capture
  • PCB development
  • Component selection
  • Prototype bring-up
  • Testing
  • Validation
  • EMC
  • Compliance
  • Production support

You will work closely with firmware, software, mechanical, production, and quality teams to develop robust, reliable, and manufacturable EV charging hardware.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electronic circuits for Andersen EV charging products.
  • Create and maintain schematics, PCB designs, and associated engineering documentation.
  • Support PCB layout and design reviews.
  • Select and evaluate components considering performance, reliability, cost, and availability.
  • Carry out prototype PCB bring-up, debugging, and fault finding.
  • Develop and execute hardware test and validation plans.
  • Perform analogue and digital circuit testing using appropriate laboratory equipment.
  • Design for EMC and support pre-compliance and formal EMC testing.
  • Support electrical safety, regulatory, and product certification activities.
  • Investigate hardware failures and carry out structured root-cause analysis.
  • Support Engineering Changes and continuous product improvement.
  • Work closely with firmware and software engineers during integration and debugging.
  • Support internal and external manufacturing with PCB and electronics-related issues.
  • Improve production test methods, fixtures, and diagnostic capability.
  • Support component obsolescence, alternative component qualification, and supply-chain issues.
  • Ensure design, test, and validation documentation is clear, controlled, and maintained.

Essential Experience and Skills

  • Degree or equivalent experience in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Strong industry experience in electronic hardware design and development.
  • Proven analogue and digital circuit design experience.
  • Strong schematic capture and PCB design/review capability.
  • Experience with Altium Designer at an expert level.
  • Experience of PCB bring-up, debugging, and fault finding.
  • Practical experience using oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, electronic loads, and other laboratory equipment.
  • Good understanding of EMC design principles and practical EMC troubleshooting.
  • Experience of hardware verification and validation.
  • Experience with relevant electrical safety, EMC, and product compliance standards.
  • Experience with microcontroller-based products, including STMicroelectronics, Espressif, or Atmel/Microchip devices.
  • Experience of RF communications, antenna integration, and RF/EMC troubleshooting.
  • Ability to investigate complex hardware issues using a structured engineering approach.
  • Good understanding of component selection and design for manufacture.
  • Experience developing mains-powered electronic products.

Advantageous Experience

  • Experience of EV charger / EVSE hardware design and development.
  • Knowledge of EV charging industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience supporting electronics manufacturing and production test.
  • Knowledge of design-for-manufacture and design-for-test principles.
  • Experience working with contract electronics manufacturers and PCB assembly suppliers.

Role Details

This is a hardware-focused engineering role, and the successful candidate will be expected to spend significant time working directly with PCBs, prototypes, test equipment, and production hardware.

The role is primarily office and laboratory based at Andersen EV in Stewartby, Bedfordshire, enabling close collaboration with Engineering, Production, and Quality.
